The whole shower is tiled - how to clean?!

New house and the shower is completely tiled with white brick shaped tiles with white grout which goes black really quickly. We dry the shower after use and I’ve been spraying and cleaning every week with a shower cleaner but it’s still going black in places - any words of wisdom please? Xx

We HAD the same in our last house. We got grout dye and coloured it black in the end as it was hopeless trying to keep it white.

Isn’t having the whole shower tiled pretty standard?
Grout can darken - my solution is to regrout with a grey coloured grout.

I had the same problem. Kept buying different shower cleaning sprays and scrubbing the grout but it was a pig of a job.

Then I got a bottle of Dettol Antibacterial Mould & Mildew Remover Spray and it was a game changer. I no longer scrub the grout, I just spray it and leave it on.

The bottle says to wipe it off afterwards, and I did that on the wallpaper in my front hall (that started getting black spots after I turned the heating down last winter), but in the shower I reckon the tiles and grout aren't going to be damaged by leaving it on, so for the past 5 years or so I've kept a bottle on the top shelf in the shower, and when I spot the black marks returning I squirt it on all the discoloured grout. When I get back in the shower the next day all the mould has gone and the grout is white again.

Garden spray pump bottle and bleach. Dilute it. Spray on then wash down with a mop then squeegee.

Toothbrush and bleach. I would relish this!!

Mum2jenny · 02/01/2024 21:22

It’s the sort of thing my dd would relish. I don’t care, but she’d use a toothbrush and bleach. Her answer to everything is bleach (I don’t even have it in my house, she has to provide it!!!)

Fab suggestions thank you and you made me smile! Xx

Lakeland do a grout cleaning brush which makes life easy www.lakeland.co.uk/21651/lakeland-home-tile-and-grout-brush

JetBlackSteed · 02/01/2024 21:29

I too love getting stuck in with a toothbrush and bleach.
however, these are better grout brush

whatever you do, do not be tempted by grout pens of paint to colour them in. Thats a whole new world of pain as the mould grows below the paint

OhcantthInkofaname · 02/01/2024 21:37

Spray on mold and mildew remover!

AnotherSurvivor · 02/01/2024 21:40

As @stealthsquirrelnutkin says, Dettol Mold & Mildew spray. Amazing stuff

ActDottie · 02/01/2024 21:50

I’d re grout in a different colour. White grout is the worst for cleaning.

Mossstitch · 02/01/2024 22:37

I have those exact tiles, I spray bleach on and (don't laugh) discovered that an aldis children's garden brush, which they seem to bring out every spring with the gardening items in the middle aisle, makes it much quicker/easier job than a toothbrush👍
