Is it OTT to cut the ends off sausages

For a 25 year old family member because he doesn’t like the ends?

Does it equate to cutting up food for a child?
Or is it just a nice thing to do for someone?

It's a nice thing to do for someone if you are a/ already making them a sausage sandwich (as it's hardly a major imposition) and b/if you like them.

Is it peculiar that a 25 year old doesn't like sausage ends....well obviously yes.

Yes , if I am cooking for Dh I make it like he likes it . I love the ends so would eat them . If Dh fries eggs he always fries 3 . I prefer the yolks so he gives me 2 yolks and a tiny bit of white . He has mostly white and 1 yolk . He is not too bothered by little bits of fat on meat but when he cooks for me he cuts off every tiny bit .

If I am making a sandwich for anyone, no matter what age, I'll make it the way they like it if I know they have a preference. For example I had an Aunty that lived Branston Ouckle but hated the 'bits' so I'd happily dip the knife in & out to just get the 'sauce' bit. Why not make it how the other person likes it.

id only do it on a plated meal if I knew someone else would enjoy the extra ends.

I honestly spent a minute there wondering what sausage bits your aunt didn't like that you were stabbing, and where the town of Branston Ouckle is Grin

My dad likes his bacon with fat on and then doused in pepper. My mum doesn't like pepper and prefers the fat cut off before cooking.

I do this for them when they stay and I'm doing bacon sandwiches because I would never want to serve someone something I know they don't like. Also, because I'm not a dick.

riotlady · 02/01/2024 19:16

It’s a nice thing to do for someone, if you know that’s how they like it. I like a toasted bun for my bacon/sausage sandwiches so DH will always do that for me if he’s making me one.

Plus as a pp said, the ends are clearly the best bits so I would happily dispose of them!

Walker1178 · 02/01/2024 19:19

I wouldn’t say it’s crazy, sometimes little things like this are just nice to do. My DP is perfectly capable of cutting his own food but I know he doesn’t like the fatty bit of a slice of bacon so when I’m cooking it, I’ll always cut it off before plating. Unless you’re eating sausages for every meal it’s really not a big deal.

Mischance · 02/01/2024 19:19

He is 25 ... you can solve this very easily. He must make his own sandwiches.

Kalevala · 02/01/2024 19:21

Is it a new behaviour or have they always had food issues? If it was a young woman I would immediately suspect an eating disorder, as 'not liking' things is a way to eat less (I know men also get EDs).

Total batshit!

donteatthedaisies0 · 02/01/2024 19:23

My son when he was under about nine for some reason didn't like the ends of sausages . Kept them for the dog so didn't go to waste . Soon got over it in teenage years 🙄.

MrsNandortheRelentless · 02/01/2024 19:24

Even on a plate with mash & gravy… the ends get cut off Because he doesn’t like them.
Now that is bat shit isn’t it?

If I were making a sausage sandwich for them I would. Just like I'd use brown sauce rather than red for DH as that's what he prefers. Sausages on a plate, no, they can cut their own ends off.

Raxacoricofallapatorian · 02/01/2024 19:28

I'm now fantasising about living in a household where everyone else has this preference, so I get to have sausage sandwiches composed entirely of their rejected sausage ends MUAHAHAHAHAAAAA 😈

MrsNandortheRelentless · 02/01/2024 19:33

Like a tasty little snacky snack!

A sausage is just filled and twisted, the end is the same as the middle. How much counts as an end? Half a centimetre, more?

I'd say it's safest to let someone with food issues make their own, as you will likely get it wrong anyway.

This would be how I would divide the sausage, the "ends" being a part of chef's perks... 😉

Kalevala · 02/01/2024 18:52

How do you know how much to cut off? I'd guess maybe just the very end, half a centimetre but that may be wrong. The person would have to be there to tell you so they may as well just make it themselves.

So if you had someone round for lunch and you made them a sandwich, do you never say 'do you want butter', 'how do you want the cucumber, any pickle', etc etc

So he would be eating just a third of a sausage?!

AuntMarch · 02/01/2024 19:47

Thought it was ridiculous until you said it's for a sandwich, that just makes it considerate. Nobody wants to fuck around with a sandwich once it's made, and I assume they're not served with cutlery anyway.

My family or friends would make their own unless making cheese on toast or something. Then it would be how they liked it. Same at their houses.

Teebles007 · 02/01/2024 20:06

Complete batshit. Never heard such rubbish. Tell him to grow up, man up and eat properly

CurlewKate · 02/01/2024 20:59

If I was making a sandwich for someone yes of course I would. DP cuts the rind off bacon for me if he's making me a sandwich.

It only becomes an issue if it's demanded. Or if there's a strop if it doesn't happen.

MrsNandortheRelentless · 02/01/2024 21:09

Bloody LOVE that someone has done a diagram!
I love MN!

I would do it. Then I would get extra sausage. Win win!

SlightlyDifferent · 02/01/2024 21:11

Is he Jewish or Muslim?

sprigatito · 02/01/2024 21:17

My DH also lovingly removes every bit of fat from my bacon. I've never asked him to, he just does it, the same way I add a bit of smoked paprika to his scrambled eggs if I'm making them. Or if I'm cooking bolognaise I will make a separate little pan of tomato sauce and slice some mozzarella for ds1 who hates mince. It's not expected, it's just a nice way to treat the people you love.

MN is weird about this sort of thing, especially when it comes to adult children. If you don't give them a suitcase and a kick in the arse for their 18th birthday, you're a pushover. Bizarre.
