Is it OTT to cut the ends off sausages

MrsNandortheRelentless · 02/01/2024 18:12

For a 25 year old family member because he doesn’t like the ends?

Does it equate to cutting up food for a child?
Or is it just a nice thing to do for someone?

I mean I would do it but only so I get to eat those bits myself.

MaidOfSteel · 02/01/2024 18:33

I'd be happy to do that for someone. What's the point of presenting then with something they don't like. And besides, the ends are the best bit so I'd happily eat them.

olympicsrock · 02/01/2024 18:34

Ridiculous

Kalevala · 02/01/2024 18:35

A sausage is just filled and twisted, the end is the same as the middle. How much counts as an end? Half a centimetre, more?

I'd say it's safest to let someone with food issues make their own, as you will likely get it wrong anyway.

Riseandshinee · 02/01/2024 18:35

It’s more ridiculous to refuse to do it for someone you’re catering for

Floopani · 02/01/2024 18:39

I would do it. But I know the sadness of beans touching everything else and spoiling my tea.

soupfiend · 02/01/2024 18:42

I dont see it as that different to the poster who pointed out that she likes her sliced down the middle lengthways (the correct way to serve in my opinion)

Whats the difference?

What’s wrong with the ends of the sausages?

This is what I'm wondering; I never knew it was a "thing", this is the first time I'm hearing of this, and I'm in my early 40's!

Jackfrostnippingatmynose · 02/01/2024 18:48

Circumcision for sausages is now a thing?

Life is too short!

SgtJuneAckland · 02/01/2024 18:49

In a sandwich on occasion I think it's ok. I like my sausages cut lengthways for a sandwich so DH would do that if cooking me one, he likes his bacon crispy so I take the extra time to make sure it is. My MIL takes sweetener in her tea so I add over when making her a cup.
Sausages on a dinner would be different as they could cut them themselves, but I wouldn't expect someone to dismantle a sandwich to have the filling the way they want it

This is the first time in my entire life that I've ever heard of anyone cutting the ends off sausages.

Me too! I’m 70!

SgtJuneAckland · 02/01/2024 18:50

I would also eat the ends

FuckKnowsMate · 02/01/2024 18:52

Haha! I refuse to eat the ends of sauages, never knew someone else out there also didnt! Not sure what it is about them but just can't eat them. Anyway, I don't expect anyone to cut the ends off for me, I do it myself!

How do you know how much to cut off? I'd guess maybe just the very end, half a centimetre but that may be wrong. The person would have to be there to tell you so they may as well just make it themselves.

I'm guessing, and it's just a guess, that if a family member asks for this then they'll tell you or show you and they're likely to be consistent in the amount they prefer removed so it'll only need to be once.

Psychoticbreak · 02/01/2024 18:58

Sausages on a plate, bread in the middle of the table. They can cut them off themselves assuming they have working hands.

blacksax · 02/01/2024 18:58

MrsNandortheRelentless · 02/01/2024 18:16

Batshit right!

On the whole, yes.

GreigeO · 02/01/2024 18:58

You don’t normally serve a sausage sandwich with a knife and fork, so yes I think it’s fine to do it for them.

It’s like giving someone tea made to their own strength preference surely?

JingleSnowmanTree · 02/01/2024 19:00

If I am making a sandwich for anyone, no matter what age, I'll make it the way they like it if I know they have a preference. For example I had an Aunty that lived Branston Ouckle but hated the 'bits' so I'd happily dip the knife in & out to just get the 'sauce' bit. Why not make it how the other person likes it.

id only do it on a plated meal if I knew someone else would enjoy the extra ends.

NoCloudsAllowed · 02/01/2024 19:00

What a waste of sausage! Such lack of respect for meat tubes would result in a bread and butter repast in my establishment.

JingleSnowmanTree · 02/01/2024 19:00

Ouckle??? Pickle

BarrelOfOtters · 02/01/2024 19:05

‘. sausage-fearing man child’. Ace.

FreezyFord · 02/01/2024 19:06

Batshit

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 02/01/2024 19:10

Sausage and mash, I'd expect them to cut it off themselves.

But making a sandwich, why would I assemble it in such a way that I know they're going to have to take it apart and reassemble? That's a waste of everyone's time!

Would you butter / not butter / use marg instead if you disagreed with their preference and thought it was silly?

I like my bacon in sandwiches either crispy, or I have to take the fat off it - I really don't like it otherwise. It's a right pain in the arse when I ask for crispy bacon please and it comes all flabby and I have to take the whole thing apart. It's annoying in a cafe, but if DP did it I'd think he was being a bit mean.

Samcro · 02/01/2024 19:12

I would do it, then I get to eat the ends
