What are your DH's hobbies?

alliwantforchristmasis50k · 02/01/2024 17:29

I see a lot of threads that mention that a DH ominously has a "hobby"...I feel like it would sometimes add a bit of context to thread subject if we knew what the hobby was?

Snowboarding is pretty different to stamp collecting

Taxidermy is different to badger baiting

Etc

Do you hate it??? Do you think its weird??? Do you not gaf??

What does your DH do??

(I am also a 40 Yr old bloke so kinda nosey as to what other men have as hobbies. I hate sports and I guess my main hobby is reading??)

My DH's hobbies are going to the gym, running and cycling. Obviously I have massively outed him and will now need to create a new account.
😉

Painting, fungi cultivation and foraging, synthesisers, various musical instruments, beekeeping, cooking, knitting, gardening, house plants, I've probably forgotten a few too.

Bbq1 · 02/01/2024 20:11

Playing bass - has lessons
Going to gigs
Watching football

Giggorata · 02/01/2024 20:12

Shooting and gun dog training, fishing, gardening, reading and certain TV programmes.

Football. Goes home and away. Fine by me (except when it clashes with my birthday 🤨).

He's retired from cricket now but that was also fine. He now gardens in the sumner.

Occasional angling and golf about once a year.

I encourage it as it means he sees his mates which I think is good for all of them from a mental health point of view whether it's talking through a problem or just being blokes having a laugh. I know it's been a godsend for his brother who has a tricky home life and is prone to depression.

It also means I get a lot of alone time which I appreciate.

(In addition, we've had a couple of European trips for football and we've been to Australia and the West Indies to watch cricket.)

I know this sounds like "cool wife" territory but we don't have children so I've never been left holding the baby so to speak.

Brandyginger · 02/01/2024 20:18

Buying and drinking nice wine

IncompleteSenten · 02/01/2024 20:20

Golf and the gym.

Also talking endlessly about when he was a student pilot and how he wishes he could start flying again.

He finds my jokes about cumulonimbus clouds very childish.

Writing/performing poetry and dancing

Anytime I complained, DM would remind me that it could have been so much worse, suggesting it might have been women and gambling. 🤭

His motorbike - goes off on "biker" (they're all quite old middle aged and not a Harley Davidson in sight, they all have big powerful ones 1100cc kind of size) holidays with a group of friends plus Sunday ride outs about once a month. Spends a lot of time on motorbike groups on FB, browsing "essential" accessories and washing and polishing it all the time. Rarely bothers with his car. Other than that I'd say drinking beer, real ale micro brewery type beer, is his other hobby 😂 he's a good egg, I don't mind, our children have left home now and I spend my free time with their old ponies who I love dearly

tarheelbaby · 02/01/2024 21:14

Determining when to put out the various bins
Bell ringing
Composing for bellringing
Fixing things
Tidying our courtyard garden

Hillrunning · 02/01/2024 21:17

Skydiving
Playing piano
Making up songs about the cat

Thankfully he has no interest in watching other people play sports

festivetinseling · 02/01/2024 21:17

He's a musician so I guess you could say it's his hobby as well as his occupation. I did ask him a few weeks ago whether he had a hobby (on the back of another thread asking much the same question), and he said no. He does like watching Match of the Day and going for long walks, but not to the extent I would call either a hobby though.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 02/01/2024 21:19

Beekeeping (35-50 hives)

baking and some other kitchen endeavors.
the bee work brings in enough cash that it's a self sufficient hobby/small business.
i'm involved in marketing and sales of the roughly 5-800 lbs of honey.
it's okay i won't mourn the end in 10-15 years time.

Hillrunning · 02/01/2024 21:20

Forgot to say. I feel great about these being his hobbies as they make him happy. He has talked about taking up painting again this year. I also think that would be lovely for him.

My partner and I have pretty much the same hobbies!

We both play in a band (not the same one) so we're each out one night a week practising and gig at weekends. We try not to have gigs on the same night (sometimes unavoidable) so we can go and watch each other's band. He sings and I play an instrument so we sometimes make music at home too.

When we're not doing that, we go and watch gigs together, go to festivals, watch horror/Sci fi films. We both like real ale so go to beer festivals or find good real ale pubs to go to. We're looking at taking up dance lessons in the NY but are struggling to find classes that do the style of the style we want to learn in the local area. Tragically, we both like a bit of karaoke too! And visiting stately homes and places of historical interest.

He also likes gardening and cooking.

Neither of us do anything sporty as a hobby.

Fadtwtat · 02/01/2024 21:21

Gym, weight lifting, running (falls in and out of it - quite big on it since it's new year, new body). Football computer games, duo lingo, reading, looking at women's underwear on temu or DH gate, for research purposes he says it is definitely not to look at other women's bums

Oh and we're both well over 40.

blacksax · 02/01/2024 21:26

Mine is another one whose hobbies appear to be leaving cupboard doors open and organising the bins/recycling/etc. He also has a penchant for not doing lids up properly.

NoTimeToBeBored · 02/01/2024 21:33

TheCadoganArms · 02/01/2024 19:41

Collects spores, molds and fungus.

Interesting.

Intentionally? Or in towels and mugs?

Wigeon · 02/01/2024 21:40

Singing in a choir
Playing various instruments
Going on a bike ride by himself, the longer the better (definitely not in lycra or competitively with other people)
Reading
Being a trustee of a music charity

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/01/2024 21:43

Gaming.

Dorriethelittlewitch · 02/01/2024 21:45

Gaming (both computer and board games), maths puzzles, walking, swimming and windsurfing.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/01/2024 21:48

Summer cricket, 5-aside Friday teatime after work, runs (in fads), helps with DS1s football team, cycles (not lycra-wearing), reads, walking, fundraises for testicular cancer on an ongoing basis.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/01/2024 21:49

And plays his guitar.

MarleyandMarleyWoooo · 02/01/2024 21:53

Shooting, skittles, darts, snowboarding whenever he gets the chance! Happily nothing too time consuming that takes him away from me and the kids. His job does plenty of that all on its own 🤪
