What are your DH's hobbies?

alliwantforchristmasis50k · 02/01/2024 17:29

I see a lot of threads that mention that a DH ominously has a "hobby"...I feel like it would sometimes add a bit of context to thread subject if we knew what the hobby was?

Snowboarding is pretty different to stamp collecting

Taxidermy is different to badger baiting

Etc

Do you hate it??? Do you think its weird??? Do you not gaf??

What does your DH do??

(I am also a 40 Yr old bloke so kinda nosey as to what other men have as hobbies. I hate sports and I guess my main hobby is reading??)

Quite a few!

He was sailing yesterday, has just gone to 5 a side after finishing work early, and is shooting tomorrow. Golf is his other one - can’t see that on the calendar yet this month, but that is more ad hoc 😂

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 02/01/2024 18:55

Playing musical instruments (and being in 2 different bands), fishing, swimming (and some running). He reads a lot too (so do I) but I don't really think of that as a hobby - it's more like just part of everyday life. I'm happy that he has hobbies and have never found it an inconvenience or an annoyance. I have hobbies too.

CarolDunne · 02/01/2024 18:56

Weight lifting
Home brewing
Football

The beer making does my nut in. House is full beer/cider/mead/gin

Equipment everywhere

SouthLondonMum22 · 02/01/2024 18:57

Warhammer is his main hobby. He paints, takes part in tournaments etc

He also likes gaming and reading.

AnotherDayAnotherDoller · 02/01/2024 18:58

Cycling mainly.
Occasionally flits in and out of other hobbies - model building - cooking.

YouJustDoYou · 02/01/2024 18:58

LadySlipper · 02/01/2024 18:55

Pooping.

😂

My DH has two main hobbies

Gym - lifting weights. Fair play, he's in top nick at the young age of 37.

Cars - he likes buying them. Looking at ridiculous ones that he can't afford. Coming up with reasons as to why a car he fancies could be an investment (cute). Cleaning them (I win here, as mine is always spotless). Talking about them. He spends more time with the local mechanic than me sometimes 😂. The man has been car mad since he was a toddler as his dad (now 80) was a rally driver in his hay day.

GLC789 · 02/01/2024 19:01

And to answer the questions... I like his hobbies. They keep him busy but he doesn't put them before me x

Warmhandscoldheart · 02/01/2024 19:02

Beer making and I hate it. He takes over the kitchen and our house smells horrible.

AsanteSana · 02/01/2024 19:04

Fishing, shooting, beekeeping, gardening, keeping chickens, collecting old clocks and scientific instruments, learning a second language (Swahili), making homemade chutneys and jams...

Weepingwillows12 · 02/01/2024 19:07

I would say his main hobby is watching TV whether it be sports, TV or movies. He loves music too and playing guitar and also gaming. He occasionally plays golf and also likes camping / outdoorsy stuff.

Mostly cheap solo activities that he mainly doesn't leave the house for. Nothing fitnessy anymore although he used to be quite fit when I first met him.

FlyingCherub · 02/01/2024 19:07

Golf
Cleaning his car
Cleaning his man cave aka the garage
Blowing leaves around the garden though this is bordering on obsession more than hobby Hmm

overmydeadbody · 02/01/2024 19:09

Surfing. Windsurfing. Kite boarding. Basically any excuse to be in the sea.

I like it. I love the beach and swimming in the sea. Occasionally take part in those sports with him. Happy for him to go without me.

WorkCleanRepeat · 02/01/2024 19:10

Gym, playing football, running.

MinnieMountain · 02/01/2024 19:12

Hockey, gym, skiing once a year but he spends ages planned it.

KohlaParasaurus · 02/01/2024 19:14

Cycling 😁And he repairs, dismantles and builds bikes and collects bike parts as a separate hobby. It's not a problem now and he's happy to cycle with me. When we had children at home, I was working long hours, and he wanted to train to become the best cyclist he could (or at least beat the local alpha MAMILs on Strava) he almost ended up on the doorstep with his bike wrapped tightly around his neck.

He likes watching sport too. Almost any sport. I don't ever need to worry about him being bored.

Chickpea17 · 02/01/2024 19:16

Motorbikes lots and lots of motorbikes and paragliding.

MrsDilligaf · 02/01/2024 19:17

But fishing, cycling, golf, cricket and not shutting cupboard doors.

ButteryBiscuitBaseBiscuitBase · 02/01/2024 19:20

Nannyfannybanny · 02/01/2024 19:23

Gardening,he's 66, and does the lot,up a 10mtr tree pruning. We have a big garden,so it's almost all year. There are only a couple of weeks with nothing to do. We've got 4 greenhouses. He likes specialty plants, shrubs, we've got one green house full of oranges and lemons. It's my thing as well. We both hill walk (2border collies) He also loves jigsaws and crosswords. DIY,does all the house repairs, and cars, hes a qualified vehicle tech.

Nannyfannybanny · 02/01/2024 19:24

Mine doesn't shut cupboard doors or drawers!!

BluJanuary · 02/01/2024 19:27

Warhammer and gaming (computer only)

Ragwort · 02/01/2024 19:34

Golf (of course Grin), hiking, camping, fishing, cycling, gym, gardening, DIY, cooking, volunteering, most sports as a spectator (used to do a lot of coaching in his younger days).
And yes, I am delighted he has lots of hobbies... we are both retired now and would hate him to be aimlessly drifting round the house or expecting me to "entertain" him.
And when our DS was younger we both respected each other's hobbies, shared child care duties and there was no resentment at all.

greasypolemonkeyman · 02/01/2024 19:38

Him- Guitar. Reading. Candy crush.

Mine- Glass art, canning and preserving, fencing, mushroom cultivation, veg gardening , crochet, sewing, knitting, baking, and I cultivate phaleonopsis orchids. Used to breed royal pythons, egg eating snakes, bearded dragons and a few species of tortoises but my health meant I had to give up. So now mine is mostly gentle gardening or desk sitting toe hobbies. The fencing is the most active.

TheCadoganArms · 02/01/2024 19:41

Collects spores, molds and fungus.
