some missing people cases do stretch the imagination. you kind of hope that they are just building a new life and are happy but some do make you wonder. Andrew Gosden is the one that puzzles me and I read it often. indications in recent years have given that he is alive and changed life. was it because of his parent's religious upbringing of him? Was he groomed by someone maybe through his love of obscure bands? why did he take such odd things with him and leave money behind? to me in the photo that always seems to be shown, he looks very young, quite bewildered but walking out of the station in London he reminds me sort of like a young boy on a school trip seeing the capital for the first time yet his parents say he knew London well.
Is there any other missing that makes you wonder

I wonder about all missing people (children especially) some Madeleine McCann for example was just a baby she probably doesn't even know she's missing (assuming she's still alive) and She certainly won't have any memories of her Mum and Dad.
Katrice Lee who went missing from a supermarket on her second birthday.
(again probably doesn't know Shes missing and will have no recollection of her biological family.
Johnny Gosch. The 12 year old who went missing in 1982. He was that bit older though so will remember his parents and will know he's missing.
😥😥😥😥😥😥

This case has always intrigued me, too. I can't imagine how distressing it must be for his family. So many puzzling factors.

Other cases I find interesting are Ruth Wilson, Suzy Lamplugh, Claudia Lawrence and Summer Wells.

Agree re Andrew Gosden. The other one which really perturbs me is an American one, Maura Murray. She's one where she could have changed identities and living an alternative life or been abducted although where she disappeared from was very remote and seems unlikely.

Oh, ye, I'd forgotten about this one. I'd love to find out what happened to Maura.

No, there’s no missing cases that make me wonder. I think people, especially true crime fanatics, just build up stories in their head full of mystery and intrigue and look for things that aren’t real. The truth likely is much more straightforward- the missing person is dead either from misadventure/accident or was murdered. There’s no secret life, there’s no evading society, there’s no drip feed of clues that they’re alive etc.

Andrew Godsden: i read a while ago that a couple of men were arrested for possession of child abuse images, the police believe that poor Andrew was one of the children. Never heard any more since.

I frequently think of Andrew Gosden and wonder what happened to him. Why did he go to London and leave money etc behind ? He had obviously planned to go that day.
There is also Nicola Payne who was walking home. She walked across a field and that was the last time she was seen around 1991.

What happened to both of these people. Their poor familes.

FingerLickingGod · 02/01/2024 11:56

I think about Andrew a lot too. Trevaline Evans is another strange disappearance that I also read about often.

They reported that the men had been eliminated from their enquiries in relation to Andrew.

I listened to The Missing series and it was the Andrew Gosden one that has stayed with me. The sheer ordinariness of Andrew and his family, the absolute lack of clues or reasons, the aching despair of his parents. I found it incredibly sad and wish fervently for some resolution.

I did read about arrests in relation to his disappearance and hoped that would be the beginning of closure for his family so I'm sorry to see that went nowhere.

The one-way ticket... was he planning to start a big city life in London? Had he arranged to meet someone? So many questions.

elfintinsel · 02/01/2024 12:23

Shaun Ritchie makes me wonder. It was very rural. Where could he have gone?
Ritchie was 20 years old at the time of his disappearance. He was last seen running from a farmhouse near a woodland area outside Strichen, Aberdeenshire, between Strichen and the A98 Fraserburgh to Banff road, where he had travelled with seven friends for a party.

x2boys · 02/01/2024 12:53

Andrew Gosden was said to be quite naive as well as being very young and didn't have access to the internet
Its a very sad case
Amy-Lynn Bradley is another one that I find disturbing, she was on a cruise with her parents and brother and disappeared early one morning never to be seen again
There are theories she was sex trafficked😥

I think it’s quite obvious that she went overboard.

Apparently the authorities don't think she did?
I hope she did because it's far preferable to the alternative.

Luke Durbin from Ipswich. Didn't have the money for a taxi. Last seen near Ipswich bus station and the volvo car which went past him has never been traced. I've met his Mum. Such a lovely lady.

I find that strange. The authorities say that because ALB was a strong swimmer and they looked for her, she can't have drowned. But they didn't start looking for her until a long time after she was reported missing, and lots of "strong swimmers" drown. Falling off the deck of a gigantic ship would be a shocking way to enter the water, hardly the normal way to start a swim, and the water might have been extremely cold.

I never understand how people fall off cruise ships. I understand suicide and murder, but an accidental fall seems extremely unlikely for a person who is fit and sober.

Psychoticbreak · 02/01/2024 19:57

There was a little boy under 3 years old went missing a few months ago in a tiny village in france outside his grandparents house, only soemthing like 35 occupants in the area. Never seen again.

mikado1 · 02/01/2024 23:09

Hasn't that little boy's (Emile?) uncle been accused or am I thinking of a different case?

decionsdecisions62 · 02/01/2024 23:20

I don't wonder about missing people at all. I don't know any of these names apart from madeleine McCann and think the police said she's dead didn't they recently? I imagine it's quite hard in the uk with the degree of surveillance to actually be missing unless you are dead.

Andrew Gosden.
This is my theory.
He was bullied so didn't use the bus to school so he walked.
This is were he met the person who he was supposed to meet in London.

Explains the lack of internet.
Also explains why he bought a one way and left money at home.

The person he was meeting in London was bringing him back.
But something happened and he never made it home.

AhBiscuits · 12/05/2024 18:52

I think of Rui Pedro Mendonca.
It's almost worse because his family know that something truly awful happened to him but there's no closure of him being found.
