Tooth extraction or not?

I had some "sticky?" decay on my wisdom tooth at the bottom which was drilled out and filled. Was tricky as it was the outside of the tooth and not much room back there! At the time I was having a bit of pain and they said it made sense

Filling is done, it's quite a big one and I'm still having some pain. Using duraphat toothpaste which eases it, but I'm not convinced it's the same tooth as the pain moves. It's only a 1/10 discomfort, not sensitive to hot or cold. I grind but wear a mouthguard. Pain isn't there all the time or every day

Dentist is suggesting it will have to come out as they can't do anything else but I'm worried it's not actually that tooth, they will take it out and I'm still left with the discomfort!

Any ideas?
