Nerve pain following broken ankle

Broke my ankle two weeks ago. Surgery this week hopefully.
Pain has been manageable until the last few days when I’ve had quite bad nerve pain (not the injury site but toes, sole and heel)
Its quite excruciating, sharp stabbing burning tingling pain and the feeling of being electrocuted, especially at night and I’m not sleeping at all because of it.
Painkillers don’t help and I’ve read that they don’t work generally with this sort of pain.
My hope is that this new pain is a sign they the nerve endings are healing Confused and that the op will help.

Does anyone have any positive experiences of nerve pain following a break settling down?
Im scared that nerve pain is difficult to treat and I’ll be like this forever!

btw I don’t think that calling 111 will be of any benefit as they’ll tell me to hold on until the op.

Nerve pain needs different kind of painkillers, normal ones won't work, please ask your gp to prescribe some, I take pregablin and carbamazepine, but there are many more out there. It is a difficult pain to treat.
I hope after your operation it all goes back to normal, good luck.

Nerve pain is horrendous to have and to treat so I do sympathise! Hopefully surgery will sort it out for you. Good luck

I have this in the outside of my foot. Have had for around 3 years, previously sprained ankle. I've had amitriptyline, physio, custom insoles, nerve conduction studies and ultrasound with no diagnosis or success. When pain comes it's unexpected and extremely sharp like electric shock, makes you jolt. I'm utterly sick of it. Wondering if it's tendonitis irritating the nerve, or connected to tight calf muscles. No pain anywhere else, can have a good few weeks with only minor pain and then out of blue starts up bad again. If I knew a trigger would help..

It’s excruciating isn’t it @Pyeby and so little understood.
