Not washing clothes on New Year's Day?

My mum told me not to wash any clothes at all today because it's New Year's Day 😂

Anybody else heard this suspicion? If so, do you believe in it?

It's bunkum, I plan on doing two washes today and a load of washing up!

It's something my Mum used to say, her version what that if you put washing on NYD, you wash someone out of your life. Washing hair also brings bad luck. Consequently, I never done either!

I've never heard of this. In my family on New Year's Day we take down decorations and clean to start the year afresh.

I purposely refuse to do laundry on Christmas and Boxing day and my god, I've been catching up since! I've got my first load of three on now!

My grandma was really superstitious, so I do follow some of them too, to remember her, really and because it's a family tradition. I'm not doing any laundry today .

Yep my nan used to say, wash on New year's day and wash someone out of the family. She once did a wash and her mother died that year, so then followed it ever since! I don't wash on New years day now, even though its nonsense but it reminds me of my lovely nan

Has this been on tiktok or has some influencer mentioned it or something? I keep seeing it all over Facebook and MN yesterday and today, people talking about this superstition - where has it come from?! (not the superstition, just people's sudden worry about it!)

My great grandma and Nana may have genuinely believed it. Or just pretended they did for a day off. 😂

For me it’s a day to do nothing before I go back to work so I go with it.

My OH won't do a wash today, but I'm running out of pants, so I've banged a coloured wash on.

Hopefully any bad luck will be minimal.
