What were these sweets?

Trying to identify a boiled sweet.

They were like butterscotch, similar to Werther's Original but not. They were rectangular or possibly a trapezoidal prism 🤔and each one was individually wrapped in gold foil. There was possibly a picture of a cow involved.

Does anyone know?

Butterscotch

Yep butterscotch tablets. Delicious

Yep, butterscotch, a favourite of my granny's.

Callard and Bowser butterscotch sweets, came wrapped in gold paper, in a gold outer packet.

I know it was butterscotch but I'm trying to pin down the specific brand...

Barker and Dobsons? Merry Maid caramels?

Somatosensational · 31/12/2023 18:40

They looked quite like Keillers but I'm pretty sure they weren't as I'm thinking of the early 90s and it looks like Keillers had disappeared by then?

Sounds like Werther's Original.

Sounds like Werther's Original.

I agree, I remember the original werthers being rectangular

TheTecknician · 31/12/2023 19:21

Or Butter Dainties. I think Joseph Dobson made them.

EarringsandLipstick · 31/12/2023 19:28

Yes, Werther's Original were initially gold foil wrapped squares.

Somatosensational · 31/12/2023 19:31

It definitely wasn't Werther's Original.

I think perhaps they were just some obscure brand, possibly from somewhere like Kwik Save/Netto, that doesn't exist anymore. Disappointingly!

These look like the Keiler butterscotch.

Chonkadoodle · 31/12/2023 19:47

Highland toffee has a cow.

Somatosensational · 31/12/2023 19:48

Not really @Newyearnamechangehere. I remember them looking closer to gianduja.

Definitely not Highland toffee although I absolutely loved that. My dad used to buy me a bar every Saturday after we'd been swimming.

Individual Highland toffees were my go to for painless loose tooth removal as a child. I know exactly the sweets the OP means, quite a strong smell as you unwrapped them, textured inside of the wrappers, but no idea on brand. I love butterscotch.
