Do you send happy new years texts early?

If so can you explain why? I've recieved 2 texts already! It feels like jinxing it!

Ive had 2 too. Although it’s better than at midnight.

I received a Happy New Years eve message yesterday from my mum, made me panic for a couple of minutes that I'd gotten my days confused. I don't normally send anything until mid New years day

I don't send any. I always wish people a happy new year when I see them.. It feels more genuine doing that rather than sending a generic text to everyone in my contacts. Receiving happy new year texts doesn't mean anything to me.

Genuinely wanting to understand the reasoning behind not waiting until you wake up to send them.

It is supposed to be bad luck for them to be sent early, but I cannot remember if the bad luck belongs to the sender or the sendee, or perhaps both?

I remember sending them early in the early days of texts, as there was often delays in receiving at midnight owing to the vast amount of people sending.

I've sent one this morning to DD and her DP. They are both working tomorrow (he has to be up at 4.30am), so they will probably be asleep by midnight.

Have never thought there was a set time to send best wishes in? People I met today wished me Happy New Year, I reciprocated. Isn't it really just saying, I hope you have a good 2024?

It's probably left over from the early days of mobiles, if you sent a text at midnight on NYE you had no chance of it going through for hours! 🤣

Years ago texts wouldn't go through at midnight due to everyone blocking the signals with the sheer volume of new years messages. Wonder if that's a lasting lesson from that? Otherwise it might be so people don't forget?
