My son brought in two cardboard boxes from work. They had insects on them so I threw them straight out. Now my hubby has declared that the dogs have fleas. I have flead them and washed all bedding on my house
Amy ideas on what type of insects these could be, if they're are any??

Where does your son work, and what did the boxes originally contain?

Teasie123 · 30/12/2023 23:16

He works in a computer office!! But the bugs deffo only came in when he bought the boxes in. We got rid of them that day

I don't know what they originally contained but think they had been outside

They could be almost any type of insect, but fleas aren't particularly likely - they like to be hidden away in fur, carpet, textiles, not on hard surfaces like cardboard.

What did the insects you saw look like - size, shape, colour?

Lazydays5 · 31/12/2023 00:15

Could they be booklice? I got cardboard boxes from the garage today and there was booklice crawling on them. Were they very small and black?

Or carpet beetle? Also previously found them in cardboard boxes in loft or garage randomly. More black and white and rounder.

Hopefully not bedbugs for you but I think they would be unlikely coming from an office.

My bet is on booklice.

I seen them move onto the wall. They defo looked like fruit flies to me. I've seen them before. But when my son said he felt itchy, and my hubby has a bite, I'm at a a loss..

Did they fly? Or jump? Or just crawl?

Teasie123 · 31/12/2023 00:20

Just crawl as far as I seen

Omg!! They were small and black!!

Definitely booklice. DH's bite must be coincidental and DS is imagining the itching. Totally sympathise though as I freak out so much about bugs!

Teasie123 · 31/12/2023 00:26

Do I need to do anything more? Am terrified they'll breed.🫣🫣🫣🤭🤭🤭

No I wouldn't worry. I've regularly seen them over the years but never got to any sort of infestation stage. I remember putting opened foods in plastic boxes as a precaution one year but that's about it. If you've thoroughly hoovered already and your house isn't dark, damp, cluttered, with opened foods everywhere you'll be OK I should think! They've only ever been an issue in the garage for us (because of the darkness and dampness)

Teasie123 · 31/12/2023 00:43

Phew. Thanks. Well this was more in his room where there, thankfully, was no food or damp. Hopefully this will be the end of it 🤞🤞🤞

What precisely are you worried about?

Teasie123 · 31/12/2023 00:49

Just about them breeding and never being able to get rid of them.🫣🫣🫣

Hello, are you sure they have not reached infestation level? Did you encounter them in a newly built house? @Lazydays5
