Exactly that. I want to relocate out of South East London to Canterbury area where my DH grew up. We have three DD’s aged 6, 3 and 1. I currently live in zone 4 surburbia, there’s some nice woods nearby and my daughters primary school is opposite our house…. We’re in the catchment of some Bexley Grammars there’s a good non selective school too. Tick tick tick but…. I just want to be out in the countryside a bit more.
The issue is I need to come into the office 2 days a week and they’ve got strict on it. I love the company I work for and they are paying me well but a commute that currently costs £90 a month would cost £590 if we moved.
The only £500 a month I have going is the money we save for emergencies and holidays.
My childcare costs are obviously going to come down but my mortgage is currently 2.2% and our getting ever older so going on a higher rate and getting a newer car is going to swallow up the childcare saving.
Even a promotion/company move would only put me about £200 better off a month so not getting anywhere close. My job (or at least the associated salary) is very London based. Our house isn’t worth a lot so no saving by ‘cashing in’ a London house either.
I feel stuck. There’s nothing “wrong” with where we are per se but every now and again I just want to move on. We’ve been here since 2012 and renovated the house it just feels about 50 miles in the wrong place!
Don’t know how to get over it? And feels a waste of time to keep thinking about it! Anyone had similar?
