If you could change your surname to anything, what would you pick?

My maiden name was relatively rare, but easy enough to spell etc - I had no great desire to hang on to it and adopted my husband’s name without even thinking of not doing so.

But teenage me always wanted a surname beginning with a B, as I loved signing the letter B! So I always imagined fancy surnames like Baudelaire, or even a standard Ballantine.

Now, if I were choosing, I think I would go for something a bit quirky - I dunno, Midwinter or Evensong or something.

D' Acampo

I have a really boring maiden name and really boring married surname.

I would love to have my mum's family name. It's a really lovely welsh surname along the lines of "Ap Llewellyn".

FeltCarrot · 30/12/2023 19:11

Carmichael
Cavendish
Cruikshank

I have a thing for names beginning with C

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 30/12/2023 19:13

Evangelista or possibly De Medici.

QuestBloomingdale · 30/12/2023 19:14

DiCaprio

I detested my maiden name but love my married name, so I wouldn’t change it. In the run-up to marriage, I used to write my married name over and over and over. That’s how much I like it!

SunflowerSeeds123 · 30/12/2023 19:19

My unmarried name (don't like the phrase "maiden name") is not a common one and was quite long. So when I got together with my then DP/DH I adopted his much shorter name. Now that relationship has come to an end and DD is approaching 18...I might go back to my unmarried name. But there are some nice names in the family. My favourite is Durant. It was my Dad's aunt's married name. He thinks it's French. I also like Devereux and other French names.

I always liked the idea of Cavendish.
Sounds distinguished!

wellyesisupposeso · 30/12/2023 20:03

I think I would quite like St Lawrence or St John

Or Carrington

or Elliot

HuntingoftheSnark · 30/12/2023 20:03

I'd have Fox.

My parents changed their surname a few years after they married to a very boring British name (my father was a German PoW). I've often thought of changing it but DD has it now too.

Catlover1705 · 30/12/2023 20:08

Winter, Summers, Spring, Autumn all sound cool.

Davros · 30/12/2023 20:18

Cotton, Best or Smart.
I've known people called all of these. I think they're lovely names

PermanentTemporary · 30/12/2023 20:22

[Andy Garcia is 67?? Omg I'm old.]

I'm another who would choose Honeychurch.

Im never going to change my name again as I want to have the same name as ds, but I'm a bit gutted that I can't use dp's surname. It's an old French name and it's especially gorgeous with my first name. If I did use it I'd be called something a bit like Brigitte Broderie. Just fab.

Delassalle · 30/12/2023 20:26

Delassalle. 😎

Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax.

Are you in Dorset? Love that surname

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 30/12/2023 20:32

Cholmeley
Du Plessis

Or better, Cholmeley-du Plessis

Would love to see that on a platinum credit card

Walker1178 · 30/12/2023 20:52

Walker is my surname and I actually really like it. My DP has a long surname and if I’m honest, I’m tempted to keep mine. Because of the masculine and feminine versions we wouldn’t have exactly the same surname, you can’t say it without a dodgy Russian accent and I really don’t think I could be arsed to spell my surname every single time someone needed it. I’ve told him he can be a Walker too, if he likes 😊

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 30/12/2023 21:06

I'd change it to my posh alter ego which we use sometimes on holiday for fun. I'm Chacasta Fetterhorn. I'm married to Tarquin, mother to Bunny. We make our money importing beaver milk.

everymirror · 30/12/2023 21:12

McKenzie

I like that it's a well known name, but with less well used letters , K and Z.
