Electronic hand-brake...

Is it just me or is anyone else struggling with electronic hand brakes? We have a Mazda 6, I have 40 years' driving experience but I just can't get on with this stupid brake.

It's a rocker so you can pull it up or push it down, but doing hill starts, you find the biting point, flick it, but it stays on. Push it and you roll backwards.

I hate it, so I use the other car.

My DH 🙄 at me but I notice he gets a tiny roll back on every hill start, too.

Anyone else??

It would be interesting to try and use an electronic handbrake to gently bring a car to a standstill from motorway speeds in the case of hydraulic brake failure.

I thought they were designed to slow the car in case of emergency, in the same way a manual handbrake is? Mine certainly is anyway. Maybe they don't all have the same safety features.

I don't think I ever had cause to touch the handbrake button on my golf all the years I had it. I'm curious when you might want to use it, @Clevs ?

If I'm sat in traffic I will apply it, especially if it's dark so I don't dazzle the person behind me with my brake lights.

I use my handbrake in traffic queues. Was rear ended on the motorway and by the chance I had my handbrake on and left a gap in front (tyres and tarmac!) I didn't hit the car in front
Made my insurance a lot simpler

Mazda deploy a Hill Hold Assist with their electronic brakes. This gives you enough time to get to biting point on a hill start. I'll be honest, I like a manual brake rather than the electronic one but I manage fine on Cumbrian hills with it. You've got to give it some welly especially if it's a diesel, but it should not roll back all the time.

We had one on a scenic and I loved it. You just pulled it to put it on and it automatically came off when you accelerated.
