£200 to spend on me

My Mum gave me £200 to spend on myself for Christmas

I’ve realised I am very very bad at spending money on me … usually I can persuade myself out of spending because I don’t need anything so any spending tends to go on the house or on the kids

I am not allowed, and don’t need to, spend it on anything sensible

So… if you had £200 what would you spend it on?

Botox. That's what I'm getting with my Christmas money

threecupsofteaminimum · 30/12/2023 01:31

Coat or boots.

RoseMartha · 30/12/2023 02:22

Books
Craft supplies
Clothes. I just liked not needed.
Maybe a back massage.

Or use it for a day trip to London and to see a show.

I also got exactly £200 as a Christmas gift with a pleading card saying to please just for once buy myself something I wouldn't normally and to just enjoy it. I'm a saver or would buy something practical for the house and everyone knows it apparently.

I bought myself a rechargeable table lamp from Pooky, which was so expensive and I'd never have just bought one otherwise but it's absolutely brilliant - I can't stop moving it around, so useful and also so gorgeous. Had about 50 quid left after that so had a lovely hour in the bookshop, chose a few books, bought a new mug from M&S , some brownies from the posh bakery and settled in at home with my new lamp, tea and treats. Honestly not had a nicer afternoon in ages and feel very spoilt.

Hi @WutheredOut I’ve just spent this amount booking something that I’ve wanted to do for a long long time, it’s for a colour analysis consultation , to find out what colours suits me the best, I am beyond excited and can’t wait as sometimes I get comments asking if I feel well as I look pale in certain coloured clothes (and get nice comments with others) but I have no clue what suits me or not. I’m hoping it’ll save me time and money in the future and avoid buying the wrong coloured clothes.

If I had £200 to spend I would get a nice hair cut. Or use it for the next few hair cuts.

Agreed. £200 is the perfect amount for a damn good cut and colour at a top salon. And good hair is transformative.

Oh gosh this happens me, everyone I end up spending it on kids. My parents gave me a similar amount last month and for the first time ever I booked a 2 night stay away with hubby and thoroughly enjoyed it, mind still popped to the shops and found stuff for kids aswell haha built it some of us I think

WhatTheFuk · 30/12/2023 04:47

Lego. There are some beautiful sets.

HerRoyalNotness · 30/12/2023 04:57

I was about to say Lego too.

MissingMoominMamma · 30/12/2023 05:03

I’d book a campsite and go in my van, with my dog, and the pile of knitwear and books! 😃

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 30/12/2023 05:47

I bought myself a tote bag I have been coveting from Eli's and Kresse. It matches my messenger bag from them in red and is just so gorgeous. I am now very patiently waiting for the 2nd January when they will process my order!

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 30/12/2023 05:48

Elvis and Kresse!!!!

CheersToAMerryChristmas · 30/12/2023 06:05

I'd put it towards an iPad, as I only have my phone and want to use some design apps on a decent sized screen.

husbandcallsmepickle · 30/12/2023 06:08

Lego or tickets to see a show/event

DsTTy · 30/12/2023 06:13

I’d book in another theatre trip and have a nice meal whilst I was there

That sounds like my idea of heaven @dontgobaconmyheart , except I'll have cheese scones instead of brownies please. I'll bring my new books, get the kettle on!

Edited to add, I also have a spare cat if you need one for your knee!

I don't have much trouble spending money on myself Blush Grin

Massage, I have a stressful life and lots of aches and pains, so I treat myself to a massage every couple of months. Bliss.

New coat, shoes, handbag, purse, watch, jewellery

Kobo e-reader (prefer this to Kindle as you can borrow ebooks from the library on it)

Apple EarPods (or equivalent/similar if you don't have an iPhone)

Something for the house: artwork, a new lamp or ornament, etc

I'm surprised by how many have said Lego. Assuming most posters are adult women, I didn't realise so many would be into Lego!

I'd have agreed with you a week ago, but my sons Xmas seems to have been sponsored by it and I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying doing it with him!

I guess it's not entirely dissimilar to jigsaws though and I've had one of them I've been wanting to yet done but lack of space to keep it out means I haven't.

AnotherEmma · 30/12/2023 08:41

I've rediscovered jigsaws this Christmas, with the help of a portapuzzle board which is a game changer! You can tuck it under the sofa when you need the table for meals etc.

Yes I thought I'd missed a post where OP said she loved it! I wish I liked Lego, but the fiddliness of it makes me feel anxious (odd I know!)

If I had £200 to spend, I'd buy myself a pair of DM's!

Lego is a fantastic creative, mindfulness activity. Once built you have the joy of displaying and seeing your creation too.
Have a look at some of the beautiful sets available.

Well now I know where some of my own Xmas money is going 😁

I'm afraid I just don't have space, my house is cluttered up with all my kids toys as it is! And my style (if I managed to express it in my house, which I struggle to due to the clutter) is quite minimalist. I know there are some gorgeous (and expensive!) adult Lego sets but it's not the kind of thing I'd want to display. Plus - don't they get really dusty?! Or do you have a glass Lego cabinet?!

Luckynumbereight · 30/12/2023 09:59

Get yourself down the rabbit hole that is Vinted, OP. You can get yourself some clothes bits to tie you over while the weight loss is ongoing, or spend it on accessories, cosmetics, shoes etc. £200 would go a long way!
