Bank transfer to pay for a used car

Is it a safe (aka none scammy) way of doing it? Looking at a car in the morning but can't withdraw the cash because the bank branch is closed (and it's too much for the cashpoint!)

I'd wait until Monday but I need transport by then!

Thank you

Is it a private sale? I would go and have a look at the car and if you like it make sure you check all the paperwork, no outstanding finance on it etc, and then do the transfer whilst you're there?

Only do it if:

  • you have had someone mechanical check the car and test drive it
  • you are with the car physically in person
  • you have checked the car isn't cloned/stolen/outstanding finance
  • you are absolutely certain it is in the condition advertised

If you send the money and something goes wrong you are not protected when paying by bank transfer and you'll likely loose the money.

Yep, going to see it tomorrow. I've done a HPI check which came back clean, and it's from someone I vaguely know who has a very respectable job.

It's not the first car I've bought, just the first from a private seller in years - last time I bought a car privately it was £250! 🤣😁
