To have anxiety from this missed call?

I just had a missed call from a No caller ID contact, it rang 4 times then hung up. I was in the bath so I couldn’t jump up and grab it. I’ve been up with the baby teething all evening so I wasn’t expecting any calls. I’m now paranoid it was an emergency call from a hospital or police. It’s the only night in a long time my DH has been away from home so it feels quite sinister as if the caller knows I’m alone. We spoke before my bath so I know he’s fine and gone to bed. My number is very private so aside from bills etc the only people with it are my parents, DH and a few friends. I’m a very anxious person in general so all sorts of scenarios are racing through my mind. I will of course check on everyone in the morning but for now do I assume a caller at 12.50am is a scammer/mistaken call?

Why would you jump to it being an emergency call from a hospital or the police! That’s a hell of a jump

As someone who makes these calls from the police, if we need to get hold of you we will

Aquamarine1029 · 29/12/2023 01:10

If it were extremely important, from someone you know, they would still be trying to call, and they would have definitely left a voicemail to let you know to get back to them urgently.

Don't even worry about this.

Thro · 29/12/2023 01:11

It will either be a misdial, they have accidentally keyed in the wrong number.
Or someone has ordered a cab and given the wrong number for the callback dropcall when they’re outside.
I wouldn’t worry about it, if it was important they will call back!

Shineunderthespotlight · 29/12/2023 01:12

Because it’s a random time to call someone and when I’ve been contacted in an emergency situation before it was on a withheld number.
Im trying not to worry but my dad’s health isn’t great at the moment so I do worry about getting ‘the call’.

I couldn't give a shit about missed calls, I don't answer my phone to anyone.

If it was important they'd leave a message - they didn't, so it's not.

Go to bed.

MrsRuldolph · 29/12/2023 01:14

Absolutely a mistaken call....possibly a pocket dial by a drunk reveller! Anyone's else would leave a message or text asking you to call if it was an emergency.

My name starts with A so I frequently got calls at random hours...even random texts from elderly aunts! I use the "do not disturb" function, which only allows numbers on my my close contacts list to come through as a call, and silences texts/WhatsApp messages until a more civilised hour.

Player001 · 29/12/2023 01:16

If it was that urgent they would leave a message. And possibly send a text if they were using a mobile.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 29/12/2023 01:17

This is the kind of thing that would unnerve me too but if it was that important and a genuine call they’d keep trying x

Shineunderthespotlight · 29/12/2023 01:22

Thanks everyone for the reassurance I just needed a shake into reality. I’ve not had any further contact so I’m going to try and get some sleep before the baby wakes again. If it was a wrong number wouldn’t their phone number show? I assumed you’d have to turn off ID deliberately but maybe I’m mistaken.

My phone has caller id switched off permanently.

I always work on the basis that if it was important they’d call again or leave a message.

fungibletoken · 29/12/2023 01:41

I have a bit of a tendency to jump to the worst case scenario, OP, so I sympathise. I hope all's ok but my immediate thought was that someone who only lets the phone ring four times and then doesn't try again probably can't be too desperate to get through.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 29/12/2023 04:10

I don't answer any calls from an unknown number. If it's important they will leave a message - if they don't then I forget about it.

Tilllly · 29/12/2023 04:55

They'd have got hold of you by now if they needed to

Was probably some spam call

Whattheheckcarer · 29/12/2023 08:28

Did you work out who it was OP? Assuming a wrong number.

TenThousandSpoons · 29/12/2023 08:30

Hope all is ok this morning op. This would have freaked me out too, because of the time. Spam calls don’t tend to be after midnight. I found the wrong number cab idea reassuring though.

Shineunderthespotlight · 29/12/2023 10:17

Thanks everyone, I didn’t get a call back and my family are fine so I’m assuming it was spam or a mistake thankfully.
