It’s that time of year again... the late Christmas present to our livers!

You may be thinking of doing Dry January to:

*detox a little after seasonal overindulgence, or
*help you cut down a bit generally, or
*help you start to get out of a harmful alcohol habit, or
*just be a bit healthier for a month...

It’s good for all of those things!

DJ threads are excellent for support, encouragement, sharing info, ‘we’re in this together’ camaraderie, suggestions for grown up drinks, aversion techniques and just fun.

This is my 7th year of DJ and I swear it has made all the difference to me. It was so hard first time, but it has definitely broken my habit, banished much of the craving, and reset my relationship with booze. I imagine it's added years to my life.

I won’t be finding DJ too difficult this year, but some will. Hopefully this thread will help.

Throw your hat in the ring, pull up a chair and let's do this together. 🙂☕🧃

My DH would be beyond delighted.

Mine would rather sleep🥱

I'm listening to Allen Carr's quitting drink on audiobook while at work (15hrs free audiobook time with Spotify premium) and that's pretty good. It's telling me what I already know but hearing it is good to help keeping you going.

That should do it for the warm and fuzzy! 🤣

For sure. It doesn't help for the cooking part of the evening while the kids are still up though!

Checking in, still here, still dry, still eating crap. Diet seems to have gone totally to pot but I'm not drinking so I'm hoping it'll all balance out in the end!

vinoandbrie · 10/01/2024 19:54

Checking in for day 10, keeping on keeping on!

So.much.food.

I honestly don't remember feeling this hungry this time last year.

Checking still there - do think it helps my anxciety not drinking

WTF99 · 10/01/2024 20:34

Checking in. Very active day off work today with gym, walk and yoga. I had a slight craving at the day/evening cross over point but a 0% GnT sorted that out. I've eaten pretty healthily today too but the night is still young!
Feeling good about DJ though. I'm definitely seeing some benefit including better sleep, more energy and just generally feeling calmer.
Hope it continues

BookShark · 10/01/2024 20:34

Feeling smug (and achy) this evening after a gym session after work. Followed by pasta which has totally undone all the good work, but really not fancying the idea of wine, so that's a result.

Still trying to decide what my "normal" will be going forward. I definitely need to cut down from before, but I don't want to give up all together. Weekend drinking only seems the logical answer, but I know how easy it is for that to blur into Thursday, then Wednesday and so on....

Hedjwitch · 10/01/2024 20:35

Day 10 done. A bit of a struggle but 0% Guinness got me through the dinner bit. Then I made some soda bread. Would never have done that if drinking. I do have much more energy.

Happyface120 · 10/01/2024 20:45

Is anyone else absolutely exhausted? Despite going to bed earlier and sleeping well, I am dead on my feet. Struggled round a run tonight and now can barely lift my head! I thought I was supposed to have more energy by now 😂

It most certainly does! I was going some research on this today (will post about it tomorrow on new thread) but alcohol is terrible for anxiety.

Wine witch made an appearance this evening as I was making dinner. Opted for an AF Lyres Spritz and Soda with a slice of orange - bit of a Campari alternative - which hit the spot.

Thinking I should be OK to call it Day 10 AF.

Big meeting tomorrow, prep I was procrastinating over at the start of the week has mostly been done, and a fair few 'spring cleaning' tasks achieved as well.

Hoping for a reasonable sleep. The earlier explanation of sleep being in 90 min cycles resonated - mine has been like that these last few nights with definite waking points.

Hohofortherobbers · 10/01/2024 21:41

I'm loving bedtime tea from Sainsbury's, camomile, rose, lavender and valerian.
