It’s that time of year again... the late Christmas present to our livers!

You may be thinking of doing Dry January to:

*detox a little after seasonal overindulgence, or
*help you cut down a bit generally, or
*help you start to get out of a harmful alcohol habit, or
*just be a bit healthier for a month...

It’s good for all of those things!

DJ threads are excellent for support, encouragement, sharing info, ‘we’re in this together’ camaraderie, suggestions for grown up drinks, aversion techniques and just fun.

This is my 7th year of DJ and I swear it has made all the difference to me. It was so hard first time, but it has definitely broken my habit, banished much of the craving, and reset my relationship with booze. I imagine it's added years to my life.

I won’t be finding DJ too difficult this year, but some will. Hopefully this thread will help.

Throw your hat in the ring, pull up a chair and let's do this together. 🙂☕🧃

Me as well. Have done it once before so know I can. Have also told several people I am doing it so that is a motivator.
Just a bit of a reset and to break the wine every weekend habit.

I'm in! Although will push it back by a day as we're with PILs for NYE and they don't really drink, so we're going to get home and toast the New Year on the 1st, and then do a month from there.

Did it last year and didn't get as much of a boost as I'd hoped, but December has been a very heavy month this time round, so looking forward to some early nights and clear heads in the morning!

BookShark · 28/12/2023 22:10

Oh, and my substitute if I need it is M&S Fizzero. But will probably just stick to fizzy water.

I'm in! I'm stuck in a vicious cycle of drinking to relax on a weekend, feeling like shit for 2 days, start to feel better, then do it all over again.

Thanks Zombie I do love a tonic water when I'm not drinking... it's nice and dry and reminds me of gin!

Hello!! I love a drink, I'm definitely needing to do something to tip me back onto a less boozy amosyh, so am looking at DJ as a reset (although middle weekend will have to be exempt). Can I join???

HPLikecraft · 28/12/2023 22:33

Yes of course, @fingfong 🙂

@HPLikecraft thanks so much for starting this off. I joined your thread last year and did DJ for the first time. It started a complete reset of my drinking and I've found myself able to moderate all year. I've gone from at least 30 units a week to averaging 30 a month. I've broken all sorts of bad habits, mainly drinking wine at home. I've logged all my drinks on the try dry app and have found that accountability really helpful.
I couldn't have done any of this without the brilliant support on this original DJ thread though Smile

Sonolanona · 28/12/2023 22:40

I need to do DJ.. wine habit has crept up and up and is pretty bad !
I'm going to try. It might end up damp but even that would be an improvement!

kimberl83 · 28/12/2023 22:41

I'm in x

HPLikecraft · 28/12/2023 22:42

Welcome back @cashmerecardigans

It was a DJ thread on here that got me started and I'm pretty sure it saved my life. So glad you've found it helpful. Let's do it again!

@HPLikecraft were you the OP on last years thread? I did it and your name is familiar.
I haven't overindulged nearly as much as last year but I'd say by Monday I'll be ready for a decent break. Bring it on!

Tiamipoodle · 28/12/2023 22:47

I'd love to join. I try every year and usually fail between 13-19 days. Terrible 'relaxing' drinking habit here, and January always helps to reset things (when I manage the whole month). I've never followed anyone else doing it too, so hopefully this will be the help I need.

HPLikecraft · 28/12/2023 22:48

Yes, @TooningOut
I've OP'd 5 Dry January threads, I think.

Nice to see you again 👐🏻

Well hello again then! I've a different username now. Looking forward to a fresh start in '24.

HPLikecraft · 28/12/2023 22:50

You'll manage it this time, @Tiamipoodle , I know it.
