It’s that time of year again... the late Christmas present to our livers!

You may be thinking of doing Dry January to:

*detox a little after seasonal overindulgence, or
*help you cut down a bit generally, or
*help you start to get out of a harmful alcohol habit, or
*just be a bit healthier for a month...

It’s good for all of those things!

DJ threads are excellent for support, encouragement, sharing info, ‘we’re in this together’ camaraderie, suggestions for grown up drinks, aversion techniques and just fun.

This is my 7th year of DJ and I swear it has made all the difference to me. It was so hard first time, but it has definitely broken my habit, banished much of the craving, and reset my relationship with booze. I imagine it's added years to my life.

I won’t be finding DJ too difficult this year, but some will. Hopefully this thread will help.

Throw your hat in the ring, pull up a chair and let's do this together. 🙂☕🧃

Yay! Was looking for this earlier. Thank you @HPLikecraft!

I did 2 months last time. I'm going to do 3 months in 2024. Found this thread really helpful before.

Needhelp101 · 28/12/2023 23:08

I'm in! I did 17 days of December dry, which was a good taster (or rather not) but am very up for a sober Jan, possibly February too.

Chouxpastryishard · 28/12/2023 23:08

I tried to do a dry month in March but only managed two weeks Shock

vinoandbrie · 29/12/2023 00:08

I’m in! I’ve been ill so have not had a drink since 13 December, I just need to keep going. And I really want to. I didn’t manage it last DJ, but did the year before and really felt good about myself.

RainDropsStorm · 29/12/2023 00:23

Hi, I will join you all. Going on a health and beauty kick in Jan (well that's the plan)

Duckanddive015 · 29/12/2023 00:25

I'm in! I've never done it before but I'm so set on it this year.. so pleased to see this thread!

XenoBitch · 29/12/2023 00:31

Poppy209 · 29/12/2023 02:37

Hi All….I’m in! Awake (again) in the early hours having drunk too much the night before (again) Going to start being dry as of today. I have the Try Dry app already. Been tracking my drinking for the last few months and it makes for very scary reading….time to change things and a month will be a good start.

justjuggling · 29/12/2023 02:41

Hello! I do it every year so count me in!

ThisIsMyHappyFacee · 29/12/2023 03:52

I'm in too

Clicktock · 29/12/2023 04:19

Up for this! Need to cut down drinking, eating rubbish and increase exercise! Here's to 2024!

Wineisnottheanswer · 29/12/2023 05:08

I’ll join. Thanks

hydratedsusan · 29/12/2023 05:15

I should do this. I think I'd have a better bed time routine (might stop going to sleep shattered and still wearing mascara) and better quality sleep. I'd have more calories on actual food instead of booze for my post Xmas health kick. I think I'd be less grumpy and have more energy. Let me ponder how this would work, I might join in.

autienotnaughty · 29/12/2023 07:17

Yes I will be doing. Barely drank all Xmas due to feeling rubbish so shouldn't be too different!

SideshowAuntSallyx · 29/12/2023 07:26

I'm in,although I don't drink much I feel it's creeping up since I started my new job last year.

Happyface120 · 29/12/2023 07:33

I'm in please! Like some PPs my "relaxing" drinking has really crept up this year. Have done DJ before and it really helped with my skin, sleep and weight, all of which are shit at the moment!

fatandhappy47 · 29/12/2023 07:34

I'm in for the 1st time!

OldTinHat · 29/12/2023 07:35

Count me in! I've drunk waaaaaay too much this Christmas.

Frozentinkerbelle1 · 29/12/2023 07:40

Hi. I'd like to join. Have bought some 0% gin as a substitute.

ChickenChipsandBeans · 29/12/2023 07:42

Hi. I'd like to try. I've never done it before and if I'm honest I don't know if I will be able to stick to it. Like PP, it's how I relax, but I would love to succeed and it would also help towards my weight loss....

HPLikecraft · 29/12/2023 09:05

Good morning, and welcome to everyone who's joined us since I last posted. Too many to give individual shout outs to, but it's great to see you all.

This is a thread for mutual support, so please try to check in daily once we get properly underway. Tell us if you're doing well; tell us if you're doing badly. Share your AF drink recommendations and coping strategies.

We can do this!

I'm in...been thinking about this for a long time. Need to lose weight as well so hopefully this will help!

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 29/12/2023 09:20

Nice to see so many joining already. I’m really looking forward to DJ. I have done it the last 3 years but by the end of the year my drinking is always back to shocking levels and I just can’t moderate. I’m hoping to continue long past DJ this year for the sake of my health (sleep, skin, weight).

My newest drink discovery is half pomegranate juice and half fizzy water. Slice of orange if I’m feeling fancy 😁
