Liver blood test high

I forgot I had a blood test yesterday morning. I drank quite a lot on the evening before (it was boxing day). Dr messaged today saying he wanted to talk to me although it was nothing urgent. I looked at my test results online. All normal apart from low vitamin D and high ALT and alkaline phosphatase, ALT was 122 iu/L.

would the alcohol have affected the liver test results?

Sorry.....ALT was 69, alkaline phosphatase was 122

An ALT of 69 is not awful - I'm a GP and our usual protocol locally is to repeat any new mildly raised ALT (under 83) 3 months later before really worrying about scans or investigations. But it will depend on the clinical context. Why was it done?

From what I'm aware of yes it can affect it, I've had this before

That ALT isn’t massively high. I think mine was like 130-150 ish, but I was in fact an alcoholic who was drinking heavily and regularly. One incident of drinking alone probably isn’t enough to get it that high so I would assume you have a bit to drink somewhat regularly. Doing dry January though for example would sort you out. Mine was back within normal in 4 weeks.

I don’t think your ALP is high. Did they test for anything else, like GGT?

ALonelyPerson · 28/12/2023 19:40

It was because of headaches (which I told him were hormonal). I'm 52 and rarely drink. Only because it was Christmas.

No GGT tested. Total bilirubin was 3 and within normal range.

What other tests did you have done? Those are odd ones for headaches. If that’s the only thing that’s funny, I’m guessing doctor will just say they don’t really know what’s causing it, could be hormonal, here’s some options. I don’t think those blood results are too worrying though. Hope you find some answers soon.

I had lots of tests. All normal apart from very low vitamin D. (23)
