Seems ridiculous posting it on here however I’ve waited for months and months for answers and I’m still waiting on test that were done 2/3 months ago. I am looking at going private now as it’s taking too long and also the pain is getting worse, but I just wondered if anybody had similar experiences to this and what it was for them. over the last five months, I’ve been having upper tummy problems starting with sharp pains in my diaphragm area that radiate to my back and also random bouts of diarrhoea and sickness (not related to the pain). The pain is now getting so bad sometimes and quite frequent that it’s becoming. The doctor has for now given me anti acids which aren’t working and strong cocodamol which isn’t touching the sides really now. I’ve had an ultrasound a month ago but they have said it will be 2 months until results, I did a stool sample for h bacteria and that came back fine and so did my bloods. I just wondered if anybody had experienced similar things? The main thing is the pain in the upper tummy and upper back between the shoulder blades. Thanks

It sounds a bit like my hall bladder flare ups. Only shows up on ultrasound at the time. If you follow a lower fat, low alcohol and low spicy food diet it should be better.
I was told I had all the F aggravating factors. Forties, female, fertile and fat.

I started suffering with this last October. It got really bad from March 2023. I had an endoscopy, ct scan, heart scan, and finally a abdominal scan.

At first they suspected GERD and a possible hiatus hernia and sent me for the endoscopy. While talking to the consultant there, he said that my symptoms were typical of gallbladder flare and to make sure i get it checked. I did get a scan but at the time of the scan my symptoms had eased. All results have come back normal.

Doctor has now diagnosed with IBS which I find strange as pain is in upper stomach just under my breastbone. I now get the pain a few times a week and this seems to be linked to when I feel quite stressed. I have adapted my diet.

I do know that certain foods make it alot worse one being peppermint which is often said to make it better.

Also I suspect the pain could be costochondritis. I suffered before briefly after my son. I have been doing the exercises ans they have really helped to open my chest and back.

Agree. Sounds like gallstones.

Does gallstones match your symptoms @Lollipop20 ?

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 28/12/2023 22:13

I’d say gallstones.

Lollipop20 · 29/12/2023 09:21

I had the ultrasound and although the formal reports haven’t come back when I was there the sonographer said there were no gallstones etc however if you’re not having a ‘flare up’ at the time will it not show?

That’s right, I’m 99% sure my issues are gallstones but it took 2 weeks for me to be referred. After the awful pain of the flare up I had been eating a plain, healthy, low fat diet and was not in pain. Not surprised there were no gallstones when they scanned me.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 29/12/2023 10:38

i think it’s the case that gallstone sludge can still cause the excruciating pain but not show up on scans because its ‘too small’.

Jadeypie · 29/12/2023 11:10

I had gallstones and this is exactly what it's like! Foods trigger it and the pain lasts for hours and hours eventually pain killers don't touch the side. It's a nightmare to get diagnosed for some reason. The only thing that stopped them pains was gall bladder removal xx

Ok thank you for this everybody I really appreciate it! It can be so isolating sometimes and it genuinely is effecting my day to day life but when you get results back saying their normal you start to doubt your own sanity! lol I am going to go private and ask for another ultrasound as it’s definitely becoming more frequent in comparison to when I had the scan a month ago now. I’m also going to have a plain diet and see if it helps. Thank you
