Need a passport but can't provide the documents needed?

I want to apply for my first adult passport. I've just been looking on the gov website at what documents I'll need and I've hit a wall.

They'll need my birth certificate and also my mother's. I have no contact with my mother whatsoever. I don't have a father.

Does this mean I can't get a passport? Is there a way around something like this?

You can order copies of birth certificates online. Get hold of yours and your mothers.

I had no idea you could order somebody else's birth certificate other than your own, thank you that's really helpful.
