My heart breaks for children with SEN and their families

My 4.5 year old DD has suspected asd and adhd, we've been trying to get a diagnosis for over a year at this point. In November we sent off paperwork alongside her school to aid her diagnosis and sent it well before the cut off point. The day before Christmas we receive a letter to say our daughter has been discharged due to not receiving this paperwork. Called up today and apparently someone sent out lots of discharges before Christmas without checking the inbox (bare in mind this would have been sat in their inbox for a whole month before Christmas) clearly just to fuck off home.

If we had made errors in the paperwork they would have soon complained but because it's the beloved NHS we're just meant to forgive because they're overworked etc, it's not right

I am so disgusted by this whole process, how many hurdles are put in place and how you are made to beg for help at every turn.

I just wanted to get that off my chest and to reach out to others in a similar situation

The biggest problem is the length of the waiting lists. My DC was put on the waiting list for assessment aged 5 - they said their aim was to assess him before he went to secondary school. That’s six years! And in the meantime they can’t access any funding to support him because he doesn’t have a diagnosis.

6 years! That's appalling, I'm so sorry
