High Calprotectin and High FIT test

Hi, so anxious! I’ve been having mucus and blood when I go the loo for a few months now, sometimes with stool or sometimes I’ll just pass mucus.

I’ve done a Calprotectin stool sample which came back 539 and a FIT test which came back over 200. I’ve got a telephone call with the hospital on 4th Jan with the consultant and because of my tests I’ve been place in the 2WW for colorectal.

any positive stories… 30 year old mum of a two year old!

Hi @Qwerty93

I had a colorectal cancer diagnosis in october although throughout the processes they were clear there were various other less serious and highly treatable non-cancer things it could be. You may find that it's something entirely nonscarey.

If it does turn out to be the big C the positive news I can give is that it's not quite as bad as I feared. I won't lie chemo is really not fun and I am mightily pissed off with the whole thing but what scared me was all the depictions of it in film tv & books etc who dramatise it to be really awful because that is what they need for the plot, but in real life for me it's not being that bad. Still nasty but bearable. What's your support network like. You'll need to be able to call on people to help and support you but people are so kind and will do whatever is needed.

sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I do hope chemo is working for you!

What were your symptoms?

I do have my fingers crossed it is one of them non scary things!

I had a high calprotectin (not quite as high as yours but it can go much higher, into the 1000’s) and I had an issue with my pancreas which causes bowel inflammation. No cancer, though I was seen fairly urgently and had excellent thorough care.

Thanks! The blood is deffo unnerving, so the wait until I’m seen feels like forever!

My youngest ds recently was diagnosed with inflamed bowel diseased, (possibly colitis) and his calprotectin level was over 800. My other ds had blood in his stools and he’s been diagnosed with Chron’s Try not to worry, easier said than done I know, but it could be one of many things

I think that’s what the dr’s are feeling it will be because of the results, but they need to rule out cancer… I’m getting my bloods for anaemia and CA125 on Friday

My fit test was over 200 and I was really anaemic. Was on the 2 week pathway. I had multiple polyps.

There's lots of threads about help with the prep for colonoscopies on here.

Qwerty93 · 27/12/2023 22:20

Good to hear. Did your polyps turn out okay?

The histology took ages to get back but yes they did.

Qwerty93 · 27/12/2023 23:17

What where your symptoms? Sorry, just anxious so it’s soothing chatting on here.

I had something similar to this. I was so scared - I couldn’t focus properly and genuinely thought I was dying. My symptoms were: bad bleeding in stool, mucus, stomach pains (sometimes unbearable) and weight loss.

Turns out it was just a benign polyp. I was 23 at the time. The weight loss was down to me never eating! Hoping everything is ok for you and just remember that statistically it’s unlikely it’s anything sinister. Good luck.

Queenkong72 · 28/12/2023 00:33

Good to hear that your polyps were benign. Do you mind me asking how long you waited for histology? I am anxiously awaiting mine.

Hi @Qwerty93 I've been thinking of you, how are you doing? Have you got any more results/dates for further tests?
