Do you take videos/photos of Xmas gift opening with dc? Or are you just in the moment?

No

MaggieFS · 27/12/2023 19:34

One or two. Just as we've always done going back to 35mm film days!

bloatedbobby · 27/12/2023 19:34

Bit of both but only for a very short period/most of my family is abroad so sent photos to them of presents being opened.

Not videos, but we usually take some photos.

Iamthatgenius · 27/12/2023 19:51

I try to take some. They are absolutely lovely to look back on.

I do try to just enjoy being there with them though. You only get a few with them being small.

I was at my parents yesterday and my nieces sang carols round the piano while my mum played. I videoed it because I don't ever want to forget that. It was lovely ♥️

DrunkenElephant · 27/12/2023 19:53

No, I try to get one as they come into the room and see the presents laid out (I go in first to turn the tree lights on) but I don’t get any of them opening gifts.

Its not intentional I just get too excited watching them and forget to take pics.

D20 · 27/12/2023 19:54

We take some photos but not every present. I’ve wrapped the Santa presents so if I know it’s one that will get a reaction I’ll have my phone ready. I was in the bath on Christmas morning running through previous Christmas photos and my heart was full.

Ilovelurchers · 27/12/2023 19:54

I take a few pics usually to send to grandparents etc.

Gingerlygreen · 27/12/2023 20:45

No, I love photography and take hundreds of photos over the year but present opening on Christmas day is the one thing where I don't want to be behind a camera or phone, I like to sit on the floor with the kids amongst the presents.

AuntMarch · 27/12/2023 20:55

I grabbed my phone quick for the one I expected the best reaction too, and I was so pleased I did. Me and his dad aren't together but coparent well so it's nice to be able to share some of those moments some how. I also sent it my mum and made her cry 😁

FinallyHere · 27/12/2023 21:17

Not for reactions, but I do take a snap of each one so I remember who gave what, so the thank you texts etc usually include the photo.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/12/2023 21:20

My sister has decided to start a tradition of taking a photo of each person with their first present of Christmas.

I take photos of my children with presents from others so I can thank them with a photo and I take photos/video of them opening their ‘main’ present. I just enjoy them opening the rest.

DappledThings · 27/12/2023 21:23

No, never remember to do so

Mountainhowl · 28/12/2023 00:04

I set up my phone and leave it recording, have done for the past 2 Christmas' now.

I find it better than pictures because I can be fully in the moment rather than phone in hand snapping away. I love watching it back later in the day or on boxing day, I have 2 kids so it's nice being able to see reactions that I missed in the madness, and I can screenshot pictures from the video if I want pictures.

It's so much build up for an hour of present opening, I do like watching it back and getting to enjoy it a little more

kitsuneghost · 28/12/2023 00:13

I kind of cringe when I see videos. Always think poor kids will be on camera for eternity in their pyjamas for everyone to view.

Mountainviewse · 28/12/2023 01:12

Mountain howl - were you in the video to?

Depends on how well I set the camera up, last year I was on the edge, tree in a different place this year so it was just the kids this time.

I don't post it online though, I will cut the best reaction of each kiddo and post that and maybe some screenshots, but now the whole thing, that's just for me to look back on :)

I don’t share the videos other than with grandparents. Shared albums are great for this though and I invite everyone who is there (and has an iPhone) to share the photos. Photos/videos of my DDs enjoying their gifts are sent to the person who gave it to them with thanks but I don’t put anything on social media.

RampantIvy · 28/12/2023 07:22

No. DD is an adult now but I did when she was little.

What do you mean?

One or two of their excitement then one or two of the toys. Dh found old pics of them opening presents in the 80s and it was so cool seeing and remembering some of the old toys

Karmaisaguyonthechiefs · 28/12/2023 18:46

only when they open presents from DH sister but only because she has thrown tantrums in the past about how horrible we are for not sending her photos or videos of the kids opening her gifts apparently makes us all ungrateful twats. Kidsbopen jera first smile the get on with the real fun
