Lego for adults

I got some money for Christmas which I want to spend on Lego. I have quite a few Harry Potter sets already. I want something that's a bit more of a challenging build. Budget of up to £200. I'm considering either the newish whole Hogwarts set, or the book shop. Does anyone have any thoughts on how fun these are to build, or have any other recommendations? Thanks

Just seen you got the bookshop, that looks awesome! I got dh the fender guitar for Christmas, he spent boxing day building it while I did the room of requirement he got me. Ds (4) had a great time with his 3 in 1 creator set, was a lovely couple of hours.

I’ve got quite a lot of Harry Potter but am contemplating branching out into modular buildings or winter village.

I started doing the modulars a couple of years ago. I would recommend the boutique hotel or jazz club over the bookshop, although the bookshop is good too. Police Station was great too but I think it is discontinued. My favourite is assembly square.

Another fabulous one is the van Gogh starry night. I was afraid that the sky might feel very repetitive but it didn't at all.

I bought some of them new but managed to get a few at a good price secondhand on adverts.ie. Ebay seems to be quite expensive.

Child2 (14) got the insect collection for Xmas, they were a challenging build so they did 1 a day, but they look beautiful now they'refinished.

@YouRatBastard
Thankyou so much
You'll never guess I carried on searching and collected one from smyrhs yesterday , they had another on the shelf the last one and there was another waiting to be collected when I got mine . So happy to have found it .

We have the home alone house, Hogwarts castle & the hocus pocus house, the Disney castle, a Christmas lodge & all the flower ones and all fun to build! But the home alone house was my favourite to build

I get the Winter Village release every year and break it up into 24 parts as an advent calendar for DS. It’s a bit of work but much more fun than their regular advent calendars.

I have some of the flowers, the orchid and the treehouse, which as a PP suggested, is a massive dust trap.

DS has some of the massive motorised sets -the bucket wheel loader, Volvo excavator etc.

I got the Singapore cityscape as a Christmas stocking filler from DH. We are going there in February.

I’ve got the friends central perk set, doctor who tardis and the Big Bang theory set. Have only built the friends set so far. I’ve had them for ages but i also covet the bookshop. I’m also quite taken with the medieval blacksmith set. It depends on your interests though, have a look through the website to see what takes your fancy. Then look elsewhere to find it cheaper 😆

Erm, is your tardis still sealed in the box (if you haven't built it yet)? Because you might want to do some googling...

I got Grimmauld Place for Christmas. It was a lovely build and the buildings move seamlessly 🥰

We also got Gringotts which absolutely made DS's Christmas. We've only done the cart bit so far but it's brilliant!

ButterflyBitch · 29/12/2023 10:22

Yes it is Minesril. Will have a look.

ButterflyBitch · 29/12/2023 10:44

It’s doubled in price from the looks of it. I do want to build it though 😁

SuitYouSir · 29/12/2023 10:47

Just want to say - for any Nintendo/Mario fans I just made the Piranha plant that I got for Christmas and it is SO FUCKING COOL.

Me too, I'm very jealous 😂

The typewriter is tricky. I have yet to finish it and it may be moved to the bottom of the pile after getting more for Christmas. I suspect it will be amazing when finished though

MissCherryCakeyBun · 29/12/2023 18:42

I got the Saturn 5 for Christmas and Rivendell for my birthday very happy, I go DH Hogwarts for Christmas he had the Landrover last year and loved it. It's displaying them that's a tough one

I bought DH the Home Alone house last year. It's absolutely amazing.

Worth investing in the additional light set too, it's been our Christmas centrepiece!

Hi,
Where did you buy the lights from please?
I've seen a few companies selling them on IG, not sure which one to go for.
