What do you do when you’re bored and restless?

I‘m not working this week. DH is. DCs are either working or out. I have a cold but not completely incapacitated.

I just can’t settle. I’ve done some chores but it wears me out. I can’t nap as can’t fall asleep. I started watching a film but got bored. I’ve tried reading, doing some of my crafts, Ive watched some you tube but ended up mindlessly scrolling. I just can’t settle to anything.

I’d usually take the dog out and I’m not averse to most weather but is absolutely lashing it down here.

DH won’t be home until 11 tonight and I am just bored out of my brains.

Text some old friends and wish them a happy Christmas.
Jigsaw puzzle.
Online chess/sudoko/crossword.
Phone someone for a chat.
Play music.
Audiobook with eyes closed.
Long bath.
Reflect on the year and think about what you'd like for next year.

Hope you feel better soon.

festivetinseling · 27/12/2023 16:19

I second the long bath.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 27/12/2023 16:35

Thank you for the suggestions. Bath is sadly out of action as the bathroom is mid refurb.

I have just dug out a crossword book and have put on an album I haven’t listened to in ages on Spotify.

Music on in the kitchen
Cook a curry a decent one takes time

Sort out digital photos into folders

Declutter kitchen drawers/board games

Unsubscribe from irrelevant mailing email lists

BingoMarieHeeler · 27/12/2023 16:50

Exercise, crochet, singing, piano. Go for walk with podcast.

Okeydokedeva · 27/12/2023 16:50

Make a photo book of the year
ring a friend for an actual convo
get out the board games
go for a walk

BingoMarieHeeler · 27/12/2023 16:51

Ooooh also I love sitting on the bed, putting headphones on and listening to solfeggio frequencies on Spotify. If I can’t nap/stop my mind racing it reeeeeeally helps. Anxiety begone!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 27/12/2023 16:53

Reading, crochet, knitting, spinning (on a spinning wheel - not cycling!)

financialcareerstuff · 27/12/2023 16:54

Eat unfortunately..... just finished a whole box of matchmakers in the last half hour. Confused

WhatWouldHopperDo · 27/12/2023 17:11

@financialcareerstuff the celebrations have suffered a similar fate! The cheese looks promising though!!

Try some asmr.

Toomuch44 · 27/12/2023 18:23

I currently have a jigsaw on the go, for me they're addictive even when I'm ill. I also love books (literally take one everywhere with me), so that'd be another option for me. If not, and you feel tired, crash out in front of a film.

grayhairdontcare · 27/12/2023 18:35

Jigsaw
Walk with audiobook
Get my notebooks out and plan house and garden projects for the following year.

Hastheslotharrivedyet · 27/12/2023 18:38

Open the bar. That’s what I’d do

Sourisblanche · 27/12/2023 18:39

If I’m annoyed or restless I go out for a walk or if the weather is completely awful I might rake some leaves in the garden followed by tea under a tree. Potter in the greenhouse.

I also like watching short non-talking recipes on YouTube.

Mumaway · 27/12/2023 18:39

Spring clean starts early. I have done my fridge and some boxes from the loft today

WhatWouldHopperDo · 27/12/2023 21:26

Thanks for all your suggestions. I managed to concentrate for an hour on some crosswords with music on.

I made and froze some soup from Christmas leftovers.
I made a Chili in the slow cooker for freezing
I tidied and decluttered my desk/craft stuff

Finally, after the most delicious Brie and Kimchi toastie, I watched a film. Highly recommend Leave the World Behind on Netflix.

DD is home now so we are going to play a board game and eat more chocolate!
