DD was given a 3 colour Rubik's cube for Christmas. She has mixed it up and I cannot solve it AT ALL.
Anyone know how to do it??

The usual cross method doesn't work...

I could do it for you if you were here!

It is basically just a set of algorithms and there is a good website with beginner’s instructions. I’ll try to find it

this is the first method I learnt. It’s not the fastest but it’s a good method and you can do this method in just over a minute if you practice a lot! It’s a great party trick!

There's apps you can use where you take photos of cube and takes you through it step by step. We use Asolver

Amazing. Thank you! I'll try that right now.

And thanks for the app too. That will be Plan B...

MarchHareInTheRain · 27/12/2023 11:54

Hmm...

The website is the cross method. It really doesn't work on this 3 colour cube as the side colours just don't work in the same way.

The app doesn't have this type either (so just tells me the set up is wrong...).

Any help appreciated- I am totally STUCK!

Search for "solve 3 colour puzzle"

MarchHareInTheRain · 27/12/2023 12:42

It doesn't get me anywhere though! I've googled that phrase and every phrase like it and it just gets me nowhere.

I've seen lots of videos of people solving it in seconds but without explanation...

I think I'd get all the pieces that have, say, yellow top and side lined up. That should tell you where they go, as the centre's are fixed. Yellow must touch yellow given the top centre piece showing on your photo

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/12/2023 12:55

Can you pop the coloured tiles off?

MarchHareInTheRain · 27/12/2023 13:07

No popping.

There are 21 red faces, 21 blue and 12 yellow... Which is why the Rubik's cube methods do not work...

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 27/12/2023 13:18

Type red, yellow, blue cube into you tube a couple videos for the cube you have come up (along with lots of traditional Rubik's cubes videos so you might need to scroll a bit. Good luck

Alloveragain3 · 27/12/2023 13:49

The middle cube colour is always the colour of that face.
Every cube has one specific place it needs to be based on this.
Once you understand this, just move the pieces where they need to go (easier said than done!)

MarchHareInTheRain · 27/12/2023 14:01

I'm not explaining this well...

None of these options work as it's not an actual rubiks cube.

It's 21 red, 21 blue, 12 yellow.

So the result will look like a sandwich- with yellow in the middle.

If I google yellow, red , blue etc, I get rubik cube style "one face one colour" solutions only. I just cannot find anything to solve this puzzle

I appreciate I didn't help by calling this a rubik cube in the OP...

I have never solved a Rubik’s cube (of any sort) in my life, so feel free to ignore, but can you use the middle square to work out the colour each face needs to be, and then draw yourself a 2D net so you can figure out how the coloured faces match up to each other orientation wise, then use that to figure out the corner pieces? Yeah that’s not much help, is it.

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 27/12/2023 14:07
This video - sorry I'm not going to watch 20iniyrs of video to solve I puzzle I don't have them try to explain it to someone else.

Solving the 3 color Rubik's Cube. Yellow, Red and Blue

I have tried to solve the Rubik cube which is only three colors. It is very similar to the one we solve or see normally 3x3x3. The rules are the same. You ca...

MarchHareInTheRain · 27/12/2023 14:10

@Girlontherailreplacementbusservice That's not the right kind of puzzle - on that one each side is the same colour. On this one it's 21- 12 -21 so the middle layer is yellow... then all red on the top and all blue on the bottom...

OP posts:
VerityUnreasonble · 27/12/2023 14:11

Are you going to end up with opposite faces the same colour? So top and bottom will both be yellow? Opposite sides blue and red?

Can you try and solve it using the normal method if you imagine that half of your yellow tiles are white / half your blues are green etc.?

Iseethesilverlining · 27/12/2023 14:26

R/cubers on Reddit looks like your best bet! Someone on there should help. It seems to be called a sandwich speed cube but can’t find instructions for solving it.

(This is labelled Chad cube as it is the flag of Chad, it’s not meant as a derogatory term!)
