17 yo DD has severe social anxiety. I suspect she may be autistic, and we jane an appointment to discuss with the GP in January. Her problems have existed for years, but seem to be exacerbated by the pressures of Sixth Form life. I'm struggling with the fact that we don't get a break from her (at home, she always wants to hang out with us and she dislikes meeting up with friends). I also worry a lot about her future, if she'll ever be able to go to uni and hold down a job. I know I shouldn't feel this way. Any words of advice or comfort from someone who's been there? Thank you.

Young minds offer support to teens and parents and can point you in the direction of any help available whilst waiting for any help/referral the gp offers.

You won’t have much luck with an adult diagnosis- it can take years.

Firstly encourage her to find a part time job, you get a break and DD gets some work experience and social interaction.

Worked wonders for my DD - she’s off to Uni but staying home.
