Do you work the period of time between Christmas and New Year?

Do you work 27-30th, or take it off? Just curious. I’ve always worked it but this year wish I’d booked it off as Christmas has flown by

My workplace closed on 22nd Dec and will reopen on 2 Jan so I'm off but have to take the time out of AL. Tbh, this is the first year in over 20 that I actually would rather be back in tomorrow for a few days and use the AL at a different time. DH always has to work anyway, he gets 25th, 26th and 1st only, so it's not as if we can go anywhere.

FiL (generally an arsehole) had a right go at me yesterday for daring to be off. Lots of "in my day" "wouldn't know hard work if it slapped you in the face" type of thing. He was genuinely furious at the fact that my workplace closes and went on about the fact I must have a bullshot job if they can just give us all weeks off without consequence. I did try to explain that (a) it's only 3 days, outside of weekends and public holidays (b) it comes from my annual leave, (c) in an average week, I work at least 10 hours unpaid overtime, therefore they get a day and half for free on a regular basis and (d) the time off is spent almost entirely hosting and looking after him.

Yes, I don't mind being at work at all between the two, it's a time to get things done without infuriating interruptions from da management (who are incapable of understanding that if they'll just stop interrupting me I'll get the work done faster).

I take two weeks off every Christmas and pretend I’m retired. I love it.

I used to work in the public sector @WashItTomorrow, it's pretty common to get Christmas annual leave between BH's for free. The high ups announce it as discretionary every year: I'm not sure they get away with removing it though!

The office where I work now shuts down from the last working day before Christmas until the first working day after New Year. Technically I suppose you could say that it comes out of our annual leave allowance as we only get 22 days on top of this, whereas it would be 25 if we didn't close down. I prefer it this way though.

Where I worked before, you always had to have skeleton staff in - even though there was literally nothing to do and you'd be bored out of your mind. If you'd been off the previous year, you had to work that year.

I prefer it where I'm working now!

My work closes and we are gifted the extra holidays.

I'm off from 20th December until the 8th January and only need to use 6 days of annual leave to cover this.

It’s varied depending where I’ve worked. I prefer to have time off.
I worked New Year’s Eve most years as it was hit and miss whether I’d be doing anything in the evening but even if I were it didn’t matter if I’d worked in the day.
Last year however I worked 27-29th December because I’d started a new job in late August, their holiday year is January - December and I’d used up my leave entitlement having a prebooked holiday in September.
Never again! Even though I was working from home I was bored senseless.
