I have a tendency to watch grim/misery filled things. I need something really uplifting/happy.

The Holiday

ReflectiveRogue1001 · 26/12/2023 20:36

At this time of year, it has to be It's A Wonderful Life

cinematographersparty · 26/12/2023 20:50

Mrs Harris Goes to Paris
Encanto
A Room With a View

EdithGrantham · 26/12/2023 20:50

Easy A
Dumplin'
The Fundamentals of Caring
Bank of Dave
Blinded by the Light
Yesterday

The last 3 are all British, if I want a heartwarming easy to watch film I tend to look at British comedies

Wonder - as @illiad has suggested.

I second this! Such a great film and some life lessons in there.

No, you're not serious! I love it but I don't find it uplifting. It's depressing, regardless of the outcome.

I like this, too.

Bemyclementine · 26/12/2023 21:07

Some great suggestions, thanks! I dobt really like kids films, and have to endure them with the DC.

I do like The Holiday, enjoyed Pride. I've seen Wonder, oeanut butter falcon and a few others but plenty of others I haven't seen.

Bride and Prejudice I thought was fun. P&P re-imagined as Bollywood.

About time.
It's a bit of a sobfest at points but I find if I watch it when I'm a bit down it allows me a good cry and reaffirms to me what life is all about.

Love it

OwlWeiwei · 26/12/2023 22:58

If you want a Christmas movie, Love Hard is wonderfully sweet and uplifting.

Legally Blonde is my go-to uplifting film if I feel down.

White Christmas and Calamity Jane

groovergirl · 26/12/2023 23:28

I second Calamity Jane! One of the best musicals ever.

Miss Congeniality -- Sandra Bullock's finest comedy, IMO.
The Blues Brothers -- classic soul music, insane car chases and a mission from God.
Singin' In The Rain -- hilarious musical tribute to the first "talkies" films.
What's Up, Doc? -- '70s screwball romcom with Barbra Streisand.
Clueless -- coming of age in Beverly Hills, with great clothes.

Yep was going to say this. The ultimate uplifting film. And most people find something in it to relate to. I watched it with my 3 and 6 year olds this week and they were riveted! And now can’t stop saying “every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings!” 😂
