Help! How long does beef last in fridge?

Any meat experts or butchers out there who could help me?
We've had to postpone Christmas dinner (stomach bug in family members) until 28th, so I still have a very expensive 14lb rib of beef sitting in the fridge that I picked up from the butchers last Friday.
Does anyone know if it would still be alright to eat on Thursday, 7 days after collecting from butcher, or should I chop it up (won't fit in freezer as it is) & stick in the freezer today or just dump it & buy another one?
We would cook it rare if that makes any difference. TIA

I wouldn't eat that.

I'd give it a good sniff and look over and then freeze it.

Meat has a wonderful way of letting you know if it's going off.

No, I wouldn’t.

Why are people saying no they wouldn't?

Last Friday was only 4 days ago!

Pussygaloregalapagos · 26/12/2023 12:15

Probably will be ok. I would probably tick it in the freezer for a couple of days to be on safe side. They hang meat at butchers for ages don’t they?

Yeah but she's talking about eating it a week after getting it.

It should be fine. Its beef not poultry.

Or you could cook it now and then keep in the fridge and reheat when required

Yes, so she should freeze it.

Thank you everyone, helped me decide not to risk it & it's now in the freezer.
Particularly after the awful stomach bug various family members have just recovered from I daren't risk poisoning 10 people :)
