Did you forget to cook/serve anything yesterday?

Happens to me every bloody year. I should write a list/menu next year so I don’t leave anything out!

Forgot 3 things yesterday but it’s where the fridge gets so full and some things get lost at the back and forgotten about.

DH’s tenderstem broccoli (broccoli with a roast is a no from me so it wouldn’t have crossed my mind unless I’d seen it) luckily DH forgot too until about an hour after dinner!

The cream to go with the yule log (was too busy scoffing out directly out of the box in all honesty).

Air fryer party food bits. I put the cheese board out but forgot all the party food stuff I had got from M&S. There’s now a load of stuff on the bottom shelf of my fridge that needs demolishing so may have to pick on that over the next couple of nights!

Irrelevant but highly recommend the waitrose brown sugar hollandaise sauce. Been having it each morning over poached eggs and it’s absolutely delicious. Saves on the washing up and truly better than any homemade. Absolutely beautiful.

I found a pan of cooked green beans when I was clearing up.
DH cooked, I usually serve up but had to deal with my elderly mother so DH did instead, by the time I took over I thought it was all done.
We'll eat them today.

The spring greens. Nobody cared except me 😅

Madickenxx · 26/12/2023 11:58

Forgot the honey and mustard parsnips and only realised this morning as I was rummaging in the fridge. Will have them with leftover turkey and ham for dinner tonight. No one missed them...

Very nearly forgot my pre-frozen Yorkshire puddings and when I DID remember I left them in the oven too long.
Next year I’ll go back to the messy job of making them on the spot.

MorphandMindy · 26/12/2023 12:14

Forgot the stuffing. And we LOVE stuffing!

I usually do it in the bird but this year DH had got a boneless turkey crown, so no stuffing needed for the turkey, and in my defence I am poorly this week and yesterday was the worst for feeling unwell. Barely made it through cooking the whole dinner. We lost my mum a few weeks ago and dad kept disappearing off for a cry, so all in all, this year was endured rather than enjoyed tbh.

Shit! I was feeling smug and thinking "no", but yes - they're still in the freezer

Kittensat36 · 26/12/2023 12:43

Pigs in blankets. To be fair, there was so much on the plate I didn't notice and there was just me. More irritating was the incineration of the mince pies - made some low sugar ones and they weren't quite done when I took the meat out. Forgot to take them out when I got the potatoes out. Took my time over dinner, even went back to the kitchen for pudding and didn't twig. They must have been in for 90 mins.
I didn't need them, but what a waste.

Saschka · 26/12/2023 12:45

Swede! Which is a shame as only I like it, so I only really eat it at Christmas. Just totally forgot to buy it.

Also didn’t get round to eating the Christmas pud, but that is because we were too full. We’ll eat it another day.

MrsKwazi · 26/12/2023 12:47

Not food but I forgot the Christmas crackers! And no one either missed it or spoke up!

dressedforcomfort · 26/12/2023 12:52

Red cabbage. Tbh, could barely finish the food we did plate up, so not concerned.

ActuallyChristmas · 26/12/2023 12:54

Cranberry jar still in the cupboard. I do prefer it as a sub for chutney on sarnies anyway 😂

Bread sauce. X

Wotchaz · 26/12/2023 12:57

I did the opposite and plated up one more portion than we had guests. Was v confused when everyone sat down and there was an extra one.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 26/12/2023 12:59

Remembered everything, it's a Christmas miracle!
But I did forget to put half the red cabbage back in the freezer, so I've got loads of the stuff in the fridge now, and I think we'll be sick of it before it's all eaten.

I think you can put it in the freezer still?

igivein · 26/12/2023 13:04

Made a real effort - candles, fancy napkins, posh crackers on the table even though there was only me, DH and DS.
Christmas dinner was turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, roast parsnips, braised red cabbage, carrots, peas (no sprouts as we all consider them an abomination), cranberry sauce, gravy.
DH cast his eye over the feast before him and said ‘isn’t there any bread sauce?’
He came very close to going under the patio …

Woah! I forgot crackers one year and my kids will never forget the Christmas of 2018 😂 your family are more forgiving than mine!

To be fair if you forgot to make bread sauce I think the space under the patio is for you!

1daughterand3sons · 26/12/2023 13:11

I didn't cook but my husband forgot to make the parsnips :(

WellOwlBeDamned · 26/12/2023 13:12

Chestnuts 😂 had got them as DPs had liked them on Scottish trip well because of the song really

I had noticed them about an hour before leaving but we were all already too full of cheese, crackers & christmas cake to have even had room much less appreciate them.

I bought some pre-prepared honey mustard parsnips. Completely forgot about them!

I don’t like bread sauce, neither does DS. I’m sure DH will struggle through on the meagre rations provided 😁
