If anyone is awake I'd appreciate some help

Few wines in and mind blank but we are having a song off, please help with pre 2000 songs that the teens need to hear.

Girls just want to have fun

Various versions of tainted love.

Ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with? Buzzzcocks and the Fine Young Canibals versions.

The Damned - Smash it up

sashh · 26/12/2023 02:09

The Damned version of Eloise.

David Bowie - Space Oddity and Major Tom, Changes, Heroes, Gene Genie - then I suggest you rewatch life on Mars.

Pre‐2000...
Oh boy.
To what end? As an education in the development of contemporary music or on account of its powerful message?
Purely personally, music which I make my teens listen to because it blew my mind, shaped my consciousness and opened my eyes for so many reasons (as a young musician; lyrically and instrumentally, and as someone 'growing into' myself and the world) as a ‐just‐ pre-2000 teen, in no particular order:

Peter Tosh 'I Am That I Am'
David Bowie 'Rebel Rebel'
Stevie Wonder 'Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away'
Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz 'Corcovado'
Thin Lizzy 'Cowboy Song'
Mercedes Sosa 'Solo Le Pido A Dios'
Sinead O'Connor 'Mandinka'
Bob Marley 'War'
Tom Waits 'Ol' 55'
Van Morrison 'Into The Mystic'
Peter Maxwell Davies 'Farewell to Stromness'
Neil Young 'Thrasher'
Eddy Grant 'Give Me Hope Jo Anna'
Joni Mitchell 'Both Sides Now'
Joy Division 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'
Linton Kwesi Johnson 'Sonny's Lettah'
James Taylor 'Close Your Eyes'

@TheMotherSide more the account of how music shaped my world. Normally good at this but drinking since 12 and the menopause have left me lacking.

I've found modern teens have such a wide taste in music thanks to streaming but can still surprise then (with MN help)

AndDrSam, thank you for a brilliant thread. Soooo much really great music here. I love Math's idea of 'musication'. I tend to treat car journeys with my DC, however brief, as teachable moments to a captive audience. But like you, I'm amazed at the breadth of especially my oldest's tastes, totally thanks to streaming and sharing playlists online. We're visiting friends tonight, an annual Boxing Day get together, and DD1 usually oversees the music for the evening and it's great!
