Switch game isn’t working

We still have the receipt so will take it back incase there’s something wrong with the cartridge, but I can’t see why it won’t work.

It’s Mario party superstars. Not the new one, the older one. Still bought brand new though. It goes to the part where you select how many people are playing, and then nothing works. The buttons on the controllers don’t work, and neither does the touch screen.

Are the controllers fully charged up?

SilentSoubriquet · 25/12/2023 17:20

Yep. All the other games work too, it’s literally just this one so I wonder if it’s something wrong with the cartridge

Have you blown on it?
(the game cartridge equivalent of switching it on and off again)
If that doesn't work then unfortunately I think you must have a dud 🙁

DRS1970 · 25/12/2023 18:16

As previous poster suggests, give the cartridge contacts a good blow. Then try it again. GL

Girahim · 25/12/2023 19:25

Are the joycons connected to the switch? Have you tried disconnecting them and holding them horizontally.

StillWantingADog · 25/12/2023 19:33

We’ve bought games brand new from Amazon that just didn’t work
got them replaced and all ok. Quite a few duds out there sadly. Very annoying

minipie · 25/12/2023 20:24

Are you using it in handheld mode or through a tv… I was reading about switch game issues today (we had a different issue) and the advice for a glitchy game was try disconnecting and then start again in handheld mode, that may sort it and then it works properly everywhere

minipie · 25/12/2023 20:25

We had a code not a cartridge and had to delete and redownload to get it working fully rather than demo mode… in case this helps anyone else

SilentSoubriquet · 29/12/2023 18:01

So apparently Argos won’t take any Nintendo items back in store. You have to contact the manufacturer directly. And it isn’t just Nintendo.

the full list is

alba bush
hitachi
panasonic
samsung
nintendo
bosch
hoover
acer
HP
motorola
fitbit
hiscense
LG
phillips
sony
xbox
dyson
vax
apple
lenovo
dji
karcher.

Well what’s the bloody point in buying them from a shop then? At first she didn’t want to help us at all because they were open! How are we supposed to know if it doesn’t work unless it’s opened Confused

So…I guess I won’t be buying anything from Argos again and I won’t be surprised to hear they close down

@SilentSoubriquet that doesn't sound correct for a faulty item. I assume you wanted to swap for exactly the same game so they can't possibly think you are trying to "scam" a refund out of them.
Was it the manager you spoke too? I would contact them again.

Soubriquet · 29/12/2023 18:14

Yes literally a swap. The manager was involved and nope. No go. Got to contact Nintendo directly

Needmorelego · 29/12/2023 18:23

@SilentSoubriquet well that's crap (for you).
I used to work for Woolies and we did have to be careful taking computer games back for refunds. People often played for a bit, got bored and tried to bring back as "faulty".- but if someone literally wanted exactly the same game as a replacement and no money returned it was obviously genuine and we would always exchange.

SilentSoubriquet · 29/12/2023 18:24

Well yeah that’s what I thought. You know. If I wanted a refund, then yeah I expect a bit of scrutiny even with the receipt but the fact I wanted a straight swap, should show that I am genuine. Never mind

@SilentSoubriquet hopefully Nintendo will sort you out 🙂

Soubriquet · 29/12/2023 18:30

Fingers crossed. Annoying for the dc though

minipie · 29/12/2023 19:45

That is rubbish OP.

If I’m being nice, perhaps they want you to speak to Nintendo first just so they can be sure it’s a fault rather than user error?

If Nintendo agrees it’s a fault I bet they’ll tell you to go back to Argos though… if they do make sure you have an email or webchat screenshot to show Argos

Lessstressedhemum · 29/12/2023 20:44

You need to give the cartridge a good blow. We've been fixing Nintendo stuff like that for 30years!

Otherwise, that's a bit rubbish but Nintendo are really helpful and good at sorting out any issues.

SilentSoubriquet · 29/12/2023 21:28

Well….good news. The blowing of the cartridge worked! So yeah.. poor dh had to go out and argue with shop workers for nothing.

OP posts:
Lessstressedhemum · 29/12/2023 21:39

Blowing is a miracle cure for all things Nintendo 🤣

Needmorelego · 29/12/2023 21:53

@SilentSoubriquet ha ha ! Told you - it's the Nintendo equivalent of "switching it off and on again".

SilentSoubriquet · 29/12/2023 22:00

I’m so pleased it’s working now. Kids have enjoyed the evening. I’m pleased as punch that I managed to win Grin
