Christmas is ruined! ( light hearted, chestnut related)

Aaaaargh!

I usually do a sprout, baby mushroom and chestnut sauté for Christmas dinner. Sent dh to get chestnuts last week. He moaned about not being able to find them, but produced 2 vacuum packs that he’d eventually tacked down. Went to open one today as I’m par boiling the sprouts-its chestnut purée!

what on earth will I do with 2 sachets of that!

Mix it with vodka?

OldTinHat · 25/12/2023 14:31

Spread it on toast?!

Chestnut and parsnip soup is lovely.

Lots of baking recipes for chestnut puree

Doesn’t help with your saute though. hmm could substitute another nut, almonds or walnuts maybe, or bacon or parmesan shavings for a different effect?

Mont Blanc is a traditional French dessert over Christmas( along with about twenty others): chestnut purée, whipped cream and I think chocolate comes in somewhere.

the pacs keep for ages so don’t panic.

And sometimes meringue - decades ago I made something like that for a posh pud.

We had Mont Blanc for dessert, it's fab.

Only no chestnut puree to be found here, had to make my own. If we'd nown, we could have swapped.

Do you have a recipe to recommend AnnaMagnani? Might make for NYE

Think I’ll try chestnut and roast parsnip soup.

I found the last pack of whole chestnuts today in ASDA, and still have some sprouts left, so all is well!

Update: there’s a recipe for chestnut humus on the packet.

one pack chestnut puree
2 tablespoons tahini
1 roast red pepper
olive oil and lemon juice

and I can tell you it is delicious

hapy new year.
