Big fucking thank you to "non essential" workers who are working on Christmas Day.

Thanks to the hotel staff that means I can visit my son on Christmas day. The kitchen staff that meant I could get breakfast. The cornershop where I got some chocolates for the reception staff who i had forgotten to get chocolates for. The Indian takeaway that means I can actually eat some hot and tasty food on Christmas day and the weatherspoons where I could at least spend a small amount of the day outside the hotel room with a reasonably priced coffee.

I know historically I have felt greatful to the essential people who work, but this year I feel epically greatful to those people who aren't normally thanked but who are still working.

I've seen it on Facebook and social media where people are berated for creating a demand for services on Christmas day. I really want to shake them until they are greatful that their Christmas is so fab that they can't understand why someone might want or actually need these services Christmas time.

And thank you to my DH, who is working in a banking call centre even as I type.

Ds is at work today, at the airport in security. It'll probably not be as busy as usual although yesterday was very busy.

You're absolutely right, OP.
And don't forget volunteers working today - particularly at Samaritans and other helplines, crisis centres, hostels etc.

Hear hear .,..

Thanks to the service station staff, the volunteers giving out coffee and chocolate coins to families travelling, the highway patrol helping people broken down (and recovery vehicle staff)

Care home workers and carers - I don’t know how to thank you enough. 💕🙏

Shout out to all the staff working in care homes and those offering care in people's own homes.

Also reiterating all the thousands of people volunteering today - cooking for folk who might be homeless.....cooking for folk who have homes but might otherwise be on their own ...... the drivers, the entertainers...... those manning Child line, and The Samaritans line, Hope, Papyrus, Mind, DV Charities etc (I have a friend who is working today, in the police, and sadly virtually all the work is DV related Sad)
