Merry Christmas! Has anyone got a nice fake Christmas tree that they would recommend? I want to buy one in the sake but I'm worried I'll buy a cheap one and it'll look rubbish.

Mine was £20 35 years ago from a local Asian warehouse. Going strong and looks fine.
So I'm not going "Balsam Hill"!

Isseywith3witchycats · 25/12/2023 15:26

The range and asda do a decent selection my asda pop up one lasted five years this year the cats demolished it by breaking the base

Balsam Hill are fantastic tbh! Do you have any naice local garden centres? Bents do some fantastic ones too and they're currently on sale online.

Mine was bought in January 25+ years ago in a local garden centre. When the entwined lights gave up, I untwisted them and just use normal ones. It was eight feet but these days I use the top, so about four. My parents had one that they bought in 1959 and that lasted 40 years.

Balsam Hill were in the finance bit of the paper a few weeks ago for not honouring their guarantee. It was ten years but now only three!

The brand/make Everlands are brilliant I got one this year from a company/shop called Charlie's and it's amazing looks very realistic and lots of comments on it was v reasonable so I imagine in the sale you'll get a good bargain?

Balsam Hill

I bought a 7' Noble fir from Balsam Hill eight years ago and it remains in beautiful condition. I store it intact in the BH wheeled bag and so just need to wheel it in, unzip the bag and it's ready to decorate.

We bought ours from Balsam Hill in 2012 (Vermont White Spruce pre-lit with Candlelight LED) -- it looks great every year, well worth the money I think.

There's a Boxing Day sale at Balsam Hill at the moment.

I have the Homebase Blenheim tree. Got it in a sale after Christmas last year for £70 and very happy with it. They have them in stock this year as I have seen them on our local store.

Mine was from Homebase, wasn't cheap

I got mine from Amazon last Xmas Eve, it was a 7ftr with good reviews but it was a dice roll that it was any good as I only opened it this year and missed the return window. Thankfully it is a great tree, lots of branches and quite bushy. Every other cheap tree I had was very weedy that I filled out with green tinsel.

It's out of stock at the moment, I paid £39 last Xmas Eve reduced from about £70.

I have a massive Balsam Hill one and it is fantastic - their trees are excellent, but I got a smaller one this year for numerous reasons and it was much cheaper. I got the EveXmas Onyx Premium Artificial Christmas Tree from Amazon - was about £120. When I got it out the box it looked rather sad compared to my Balsam Hill and I was in two minds about whether to just get the Balsam Hill one out, but once I worked on it properly, it looked fab and I'm so pleased I got it. I'll still use the Balsam Hill one sometimes but this year I wanted something easier and quicker to put up.

With artificial trees, the trick is to get one that has a good shape to it and that you can really "fluff" up. Spend the time on the fluffing part - it DOES make a difference. Even an expensive tree can look rubbish if you don't spend the time on it.

Then let it rest and go back to it with fresh eyes so you can spot any areas that need more work. Then lots of cluster lights and get different sized baubles - push bigger ones into the middle of the tree - it lifts it, pushes the branches out more and gives it depth.

If you're after a more budgety option I have this, and I'm really happy with it for the price

Mine is 10 years old, from balsam hill sale. I think it was under £200 it still looks like new, but sheds less each year. It's prelit and looks fab even undecorated

theduchessofspork · 25/12/2023 18:50

I am firmly a real tree person.

But I do think the BH ones look department store fake - they are far too even - so I wouldn’t buy those

KnickerlessParsons · 25/12/2023 19:37

We got ours from Matalan about 25 years ago. It still looks great.

CheekyLittleElf · 25/12/2023 20:32

Fake trees are as good as the person putting it up. Fan the branches well and even a supermarket tree will do you proud

You can choose the positioning. So they canbe very uneven if you like! We have a really tree and a BH and the only real difference that the real tree is sparser.

GarlicGiftsAndGlitter · 25/12/2023 22:16

I've got one of these. It's my first fake tree and I'm very pleased with it! Now on its third year, seems the same as when new. I've got limited space, so chose this for its slimmer profile. It has two different kinds of tips, which I think helps towards a more natural texture. £24.

I put Christmas tree aromatherapy oils in my burner, so I don't miss out on the smell 😄

I got a fantastic tree at b&q for 55 euro. It is a 7.5 foot tree and it has individual branches that go on that make it look so real and decorated with white lights and baubles looks very nice and classy. Really good value and nicest tree ever had. Worth looking at b&q in sales as I also got 2 boxes of baubles with 40 in each and each box only 2.25 and a box of lights reduced from 17 to 10 euro.
