Anyone else waiting to do the kids stockings?

Dd's insist on hanging their stockings on their beds, I've been trying all day to convince them to hang them on their doors but no, they like the tradition of them being on the bed so now I'm wide awake waiting to creep in and fill them.

We live in an old house and the floors are so creaky, I've tried once but the 10 year old is facing me and has the squeakiest floor so I can't risk her opening her eyes and the 8 year old has decided to sleep the wrong way round in bed so her head is right next to her stocking, she's also coughing in her sleep so I think she'd stir easily.
I've had a couple of Baileys tonight and really want to sleep.

Oh dear, the torture of three days!! Hope you get it sorted soon op.

MuchTooTired · 25/12/2023 00:33

Yup, I’m waiting! DTs were still up at gone 11.15pm, and whilst they’re asleep now I’m not sure if they’re in a deep sleep or not. Luckily I’ve only got to switch one stocking for another which I’ve pre filled, but I’ve also got to get all the presents down the creaking stairs…!

Good luck!

pleasestoprainingplease · 25/12/2023 00:35

I'm waiting too! Both boys went up late at gone 11 but I'm falling asleep on the sofa!! As much as I get excited for them I'm such a sleepy head! We too have really creaky floorboards and stairs. Oh the joys 😅

Still waiting. Have brought some stuff down but terrorist DD wakes

CrapBucket · 25/12/2023 00:37

I’ve just done mine, I think the kids are asleep but one has snuck the dog into their bedroom and he barked… hey ho they are actually 18 and 17 so its not as though it actually matters…

Was absolutely lovely doing it all myself, instead of when I was with my ex and I did everything but with him criticising at the 11th hour.

Merry Christmas and hope all the children sleep soundly, the stairs don’t creak and the wrappings don’t rustle.

Gingerlygreen · 25/12/2023 00:44

@MuchTooTired What a great idea to switch stockings!

@CrapBucket I love that you still do it for your children even though they're older and I hope you have a lovely Christmas without your ex being an arse.

I'm tempted to go for it now, the youngest is still coughing but she's usually OK once she's been in bed a while, I sometimes go in to kiss her when she's asleep and she'll rouse and have a little chat that she never remembers the following day.

@MuchTooTired stocking switcheroo — genius!

nokidshere · 25/12/2023 00:48

I'm just about to do mine but I hear one of them moving around! He is 25 though so I don't think he'll will mind 😂😂

Happy Christmas 🎄

OH has just had to do some ninja moves just to get in to the bastard bedroom to retrieve the stockings with me hovering nervously at the door. Youngest DD, 7, has set up iPads on record and placed them in various places filming the stockings. Also left a light on so that the camera would pick up Santa perfectly. Her older sister, 17, had planned to help get the stockings out but they are both flat out. Managed to navigate a path in.. realised that he hadn't manage to avoid being videoed, deleted recordings, reset iPads up and then did some more ninja moves out of the bedroom to avoid being videoed all over again. Ludicrous. Now the cats are having a party and chasing each other around, making far more noise that we did! I feel like going back down stairs and finishing the Prosecco!!

TinselTitts · 25/12/2023 00:50

I carried on my parents tradition of placing the stockings in front of the fireplace in the living room, so we've never had that problem.

I've literally just put the 3 stockings there a few minutes ago, even though my 'kids' are aged 32, 24 and 21 Xmas Blush

TheMotherSide · 25/12/2023 00:53

Wish me luck...

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 25/12/2023 00:56

DC are 18 & 15 now, but I said there would be stockings... they're both still wide awake and wandering around the house. This is going to be a long night.

I thought it was bad when they were little!

Gingerlygreen · 25/12/2023 00:56

Well I've just gone to do them and dd sat straight up and said "I'm awake, has he been?"
I've managed to move it to the bedroom door and have set my alarm for 2.30am to try again.

Good luck to those who haven't done theirs yet either.

We just did ours . Full on pretty impressive ninja moves were made.

I am past being tired .

DesparatePragmatist · 25/12/2023 00:57

Just done ours. Too heavy when full yo hang so theyre propped at the end of the beds. Now lying in bed convinced I can hear them rustling as a precursor to falling over with an unfestive crash.

Love the stocking switcheroo, that would make things so much easier! These are lovingly made by my sister for each kid though so no duplicates...

Good luck OP!

StillCreatingAName · 25/12/2023 01:00

That is some operation @itendswithus 🤣

Tachicrew · 25/12/2023 01:06

Still waiting to do ours. Eldest is 20 but I still don't want to spoil things by being caught. Youngest has helpfully hung his stocking on the door handle but eldest refused!

Catsolitude · 25/12/2023 01:06

I’m still awake! This is torture!! Suspect this is DD’s last year of believing so I want to get it onto the bed. DS woke up and was away downstairs to look (thankfully didn’t see his stocking!!). Put him back to bed. The house is so creaky. I’m going to get about 2 hours sleep tonight aren’t I?!

soundsys · 25/12/2023 01:10

Just been caught red-handed by my 9yo! Styled it out: Do you know, I just got back from church and found your stocking by the fireplace! Silly Santa! Night night! Merry Christmas!

🤣

MuchTooTired · 25/12/2023 01:10

@Gingerlygreen @ChocAuVin thank you, but I can’t take credit for the idea because I read it on here when my DTs were babes and I couldn’t figure out how the stockings thingy worked 😂

@itendswithus I’m seriously impressed with DD’s set up to catch Santa! And also with your DP realising he’d been caught and resetting it. Did he delete the footage out of the delete bin on the iPad too?

I’m all done now, looking forward to approx 4 hours sleep before the kids are up and on it. Well done to everyone who’s completed the mission, and very best of luck to everyone waiting on their child(ren) just going to bloody sleep!

Theoldwoman · 25/12/2023 01:12

By your title, I thought you meant open the stockings. What you mean is fill them.

Why do posts always end with I’ve had a drink … ?

LaviniasBigBloomers · 25/12/2023 01:22

18 year old DS announced tonight that there was really no point in a stocking as all the presents were under the tree, so he was just going to leave it thank you very much. I am shooketh. And also very very sad, just wish he'd announced yesterday and I would have had a chance to get over it.

So careful what you wish for

Nearlyspring23 · 25/12/2023 01:24

Drunk bil woke dc up when putting his kids stockings into rooms. He switched the hall light on, dropped the stockings then noisily repacked them.
His dcs slept through it, mine saw and is now an hour and an half into a meltdown about it.
Im trying to settle the youngest and I can hear oldest sobbing from the adjoining room. Bil is fast asleep downstairs and oblivious to it all. Fuming!

FairisleFairy · 25/12/2023 01:25

I usually just put one gift in DS’s room.

I brought it up and it was on the bedside table. Wanted to wait until I knew he was definitely asleep before putting it in his room.
I heard him get up so I quickly hid the gift down the gap between the table and the bed.
He came in complaining he couldn’t sleep and couldn’t get Christmas songs out of his head.
while he was talking to me the gift fell over so it was partly visible. I’m not sure if he saw/noticed 😬

SingingSands · 25/12/2023 01:26

I'm waiting on DD getting in from the pub! She's been "just around the corner" for 30 minutes. I know she is stood yapping with a boy she went to school with!
