I'll get up around 8am and go for a morning stroll down by the canal, wish a Merry Christmas to anyone who walks past me.

At noon I'll drive over to my parents and pick my Mum up to visit my Nan in her care home. We'll take her presents etc even though she no longer knows what day it is. Back to parents house where me, Mum and Dad will have dinner together and watch an old episode of Only Fools and Horses. Then we'll walk a bit off in the park for half an hour.

I'll come home around 4pm and spend the rest of the day quietly by myself. I'll probably do a final evening walk, then relax in front of the box with a big glass of red and then get into bed with some carols playing on the radio.

Merry Christmas everyone x

I will be staying at home all day with just my cat for company. I've got plenty of nice food in,and my DD dropped off some home made roast potatoes, honey and mustard roast parsnips and stuffing today,to go with my salmon wellington tomorrow. I shall have one bottle of wine throughout the day. In the afternoon I will open the presents that my DD and DGD have dropped off today. In the evening I shall watch 'Dr. Who' and 'Call the Midwife',whilst getting started on my tub of Quality Street. I'm going to my DD's on Boxing Day where I will have a traditional Christmas dinner.

Gilead · 24/12/2023 18:18

I have friends coming for lunch. I will get up slowly and potter about a bit. Sort out some pre lunch nibbles and get the veg going. I’ve already done roasties, parsnips and Yorkshire puddings. Then play board games in the afternoon, followed by Dr Who and then read a good book.

Datdamndamp · 24/12/2023 18:18

I'm a single parent but DD away with dad this year. I've just wrapped the presents, got a picky plate to get together. Will watch a DVD, debating doing Midnight Mass although won't know anyone there or the church.

Tomorrow go to see parents and stay over. Very grateful to have them. We'll just chill out with TV and food. I will get squiffy.

Have a lovely Christmas.

That sounds like a lovely day! I hope you enjoy it and Merry Christmas to you 🎅.

IKnowAPlace · 24/12/2023 18:21

I'm spending my day alone with the dog. My fridge is full of delicious food, I have a huge pile of books to choose from and am going to really appreciate the peace. Might also watch a film or two.

I do also have a stinking cold now, which isn't ideal!

This is my second solo Christmas in the last five years - both after break ups as my family don't live near me and go on holiday over Christmas. I find it really empowering.

I'm not a total grinch - I've done loads of travel and socialising all month. But I do appreciate not faffing with decorations or buying an excessive amount of gifts.

HazelWicker · 24/12/2023 18:21

I'm a single parent to a 3YO. We will get up and do some breakfast and open Father Christmas presents. The.n my DM, DB and his GF will come round from late morning til early evening for lunch and games which will be really nice. I'll probably be on my own from about 7pm when my DD goes to bed. Probably eat some chocolate and head to bed early.

Young adult DC is going to their other parent tonight. I’ll be listening to a true crime podcast and eating left over spaghetti Bol this eve. Tomorrow will go for a run in the morning and pick up take away Xmas dinner on the way
home. Quiet afternoon with Netflix. And giving DCat her pressies. Maybe a spot of tidying or online sale shopping. Bliss ☺️

Ladybird69 · 24/12/2023 18:24

I am spending Christmas alone with my cats. I shall just potter and watch Tv. Got a Turkey breast and some pigs in blanket for my lunch and an individual pudding for dessert. I shall be happy enough 😀
merry Christmas

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/12/2023 18:27

Going to my sisters, my parents and nibblings will be there too. First time I'm not hosting so it's quite the treat!

I was going to be alone at one point, I'd planned to visit a local 24 hour gym for a few hours, have a long bath, pizza for tea and junk tv

cerisepanther73 · 24/12/2023 18:27

@MiddleAgeAllTheRage
Happy Christmas eve and lovely Christmas time

I am visting my son Tommorow staying at a guest house now and staying over at hotel for one night on Christmas day.

I am treating Christmas time as a sort of get away from everything well being retreat type of thing of sorts ...

This sounds brilliant.

Christmas Day alone doesn't need to be sad. It's what you make it. When I've been alone, I just take the opportunity to totally relax, eat what I want, watch what I want, sleep when I want.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 24/12/2023 18:32

I'm with friends for a few weeks but I did four years on my own.
I'd getoads of nice food and watch films, possibly go for a walk.

AllTheOtherCats · 24/12/2023 18:34

I always spend Christmas Day alone with my cats and I'm more than happy. I do plenty of Christmassy stuff during December, including performing in a number of festive concerts with my choirs, going to the theatre etc and Christmas Day is a day to enjoy in peace with my wonderful kitties. Have a lovely time everyone, whatever you are all doing 🎄

Myhusbandearns150k · 24/12/2023 18:37

We are having the same Christmas. I hope you have a lovely time.

twobluechickens · 24/12/2023 18:42

Meeting friends at the beach, going for a swim, then coming home. Fridge is full of food so I'll prep a few bits before I go for a swim and then just chuck it all in the oven/air fryer when I get back. Planning to enjoy a bit of Big Jet TV with the cat and then some films and maybe a puzzle later on. Like others I've done all my socialising in the run-up and am looking forward to just doing nice chilled stuff for the next few days. Then it all picks up again from the 28th.

Shakeylegs · 24/12/2023 18:48

Reading these make me wish that I lived alone!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Anonanonanon1 · 24/12/2023 18:54

I have booked an enclosed field to walk the dogs tomorrow morning.
Going to my eldest son's in-laws for present opening and lunch, so will be there from 11-4 ish.
The rest of Xmas it will be just me and the dogs, as my youngest son now lives in Australia, and my middle son passed away from cancer nearly 6 years ago (2 weeks after Xmas and just a fortnight before his 21st birthday. He had cancer). He was always so enthusiastic about Xmas so it's never an easy time.

Exactly. When I tell people I'm staying at home alone for Christmas I can see they feel sorry for me, but I plan to have a fabulous day. I've got special food, will go for a morning walk, read, and will watch TV this evening. I have been asked out by other people, but would far rather be at home with my last remaining cat.

When I read about all the stresses people put themselves through on MN I really think I've got the best part of the deal!

Pearbear · 24/12/2023 19:07

Wake up in the morning at home and open presents under the tree from friends and work. Then I’m driving over to my parents, they’re both getting older so I’m cooking Christmas dinner at their house where my brother will join us. We’ll play some board games and I’ll come home probably 7ish, have a glass of Baileys and watch tv and probably have some nibbles.
I spent last Christmas at home on my own and it was okay just doing my own thing when I wanted.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2023 19:13

I'm
Not working this year. So in my favourite city for midnight mass, staying in a hotel. And they've given me a free upgrade. Will have a big breakfast and drive up to my sisters in the Lake District. My parents moved into their new house two days ago, so staying with them.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2023 19:14

Spent a couple of Christmas days on my own and found it awful.

Username5678910 · 24/12/2023 19:16

I'll get up at about 7am (the cats won't let me have a lie in), jump in the shower, have breakfast. If it's not raining I'll go for a bike ride.

Then head to my parents around 11.30/12.00 for lunch. Come home about 3.30/4.00 in time to put things away before Doctor Who, crack open the bottle of champagne I got given by my boss and the chocolates I have. I may put some pigs in blankets in the oven and have some cheese and crackers.

Then I'll watch some TV or just read (I'm really struggling with what to watch at the moment as I've binged watched everything).

I honestly feel a bit fed up of Christmas by Boxing Day. I much prefer the build up than the actual day.

TwoBlondeHairBlueEye · 24/12/2023 19:21

My DC is with their dad from 10am so I spend the rest of the day alone.

I'll cook myself a nice dinner, watch a film with a glass of wine, then I'll probably go for a walk. Come home, long bath and get the house ready for Christmas 2.0 when DC comes back on Boxing Day.

ToThineOwnSelf · 24/12/2023 19:27

@HunterHearstHelmsley I like ‘nibblings’, even if it was a typo 😂

OldTinHat · 24/12/2023 19:28

I shall be alone!
