Last weekend I wrapped all my carefully-chosen presents for my family and parcelled them up to send to my sister, who was going to distribute them when they all got together on Christmas Day. Family come from a few places but are meeting up together that day. I can’t be there in person this year, unfortunately.
Anyway, I’d read a lot about the postal services being pretty rubbish, so decided to courier them with DHL instead. Booked on Sunday for Monday collection and guaranteed next-day delivery and paid a premium for that. All good thus far…. Except it wasn’t picked up on Monday, or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday either, despite daily phone calls to them and reassurance that it would be collected the following day. By Thursday evening I was getting a bit stressed and frazzled, the very nice person in customer services seemed to understand that I wasn’t happy and gave me her absolute promise that it would definitely be collected on Friday and would get there in time for Christmas. Phew, I thought.
It wasn’t collected. I called customer services again and was told that the driver was on their way back to the depot, all the managers had left for the evening (and therefore, obviously, not only the weekend but the entire Christmas period) and the earliest it can now be collected is next Wednesday, the 27th.
i am really upset about this - sending it then is obviously missing the whole point, and they won’t all be there by then anyway. I’ve obviously written an email to the CEO of DHL to let him know how bloody let down I feel, but I don’t expect itll even register. And I know it’s a first-world problem and all that, but I wish I’d just sent it by Parcelforce now.
I’m not expecting sympathy - I know there’s a lot worse going on in the world right now - but I’m pissed off and just need to get it off my chest. I’d put such a lot of effort in to find the perfect presents and do all the fancy wrapping stuff too…🙄
