So I’ve just read a stop sign was stolen because it was a “Banksy work.”

wtf? What gives some up himself street artist who seems to have ingratiated himself to the general public by graffitiing on things the right to deface a stop sign in the name of art?

I’m a little drunk and i know this isn’t AIBU (im too scared for that!), but this is the most ludicrous thing ever. If it was anyone else they’d have even arrested for defacing public property, esp because it’s a street sign so more important than just a random wall….

I kind of agree, OP. But Banksy would have been doing street art for many, many unwelcome years before he became trendy and cool. Also, I,'d attest that his lack of spotlight-seeking would show that he isn't one to court the media attention AND his 'art' is used for the purpose of making a statement about inequality or political issuesm.
Whether you like it or not is subjective.

Isn't he a bit hard to track down?
