Ditching the vape,7 years after ditching the cigs.

Mollypolly2610 · 23/12/2023 17:10

starting the vape

Catsknowbest · 23/12/2023 17:18

Yes going from cigs to vape, already alternating

Chamomileteaplease · 23/12/2023 17:22

Just came on to wish you all luck and strength! It's 20 years since I gave up cigarettes and I am so glad I did.

I would like to tell you that you can have a perfectly lovely and joyous life without the smelly fags 😄.

It's so much less stressful not having to worry about when you can have your next cigarette/vape. So much calmer.

Good luck!

I'm always vaguely considering it, but not sure if January will be the time - it's set to be a stressful period at work.

Falalalalaa · 23/12/2023 17:31

Good luck everyone!

I stopped on NYE and it was the best thing I’ve done (for myself and my purse!). I’d tried many times before and failed so I used nicotine patches and a vape together and it worked! Patches delivered a steady stream of nicotine and the vapes helped when a bad craving hit.

This years resolution is to get off the vape.

Chill09 · 23/12/2023 17:33

I’d love to join. Could use all the support I can get.

raindropbox · 23/12/2023 17:49

Great to see so many on board!!

My plan is first week of Feb. I know there will never be a right time, excuses excuses, but I have two massive and stressful work deadlines for mid January, and last week of Jan I'm spending a week with a relative who is a huge chain smoker (and indoors to make it worse). So first week of Feb and I'm going to do a few things:

  • Buy myself something lovely and expensive, which I wouldn't be able to justify ON TOP OF money spent on fags. Hoping it will have a guilt trip factor.
  • Buy a very posh hand cream: I have a lot of nervous energy plus the skin on my hands is drier than a fossil. I'm planning on moisturising my hands every time I want a fag :) Presumably I will end with the hands of an angel...

How much are you guys smoking? I smoke rollies and smoke about 40 a day (awful I know but I actually only smoke half a fag before stubbing it out, its my nervous energy compulsive thing).
I've also signed up to a NHS stop smoking clinic where you meet with a pro once a week and they do carbon monoxide testing on you😵‍💫 They also give you free vapes

I'm going to try at massively cutting down. I've gov website for the products and support etc.

I can't vape, I've tried, it leaves bent over hacking, plus it's my lungs I want clear and I'm not 100% sure about them. I'll probably be more of gum chewer!

Consider me on board though! I can't afford it any more!

Chill09 · 23/12/2023 18:12

February sounds fantastic. I plan to cut down abit in January. I currently smoke about 20 roll ups a day. I just can’t justify the cost and I need to get healthy. I have to admit it is my guilty pleasure, my little bit of me time. I love the hand cream idea 😊

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 23/12/2023 18:26

My plan is first week of Feb.

I am thinking mid-Feb for similar work reasons.

Bloody well done 😊👍👍

Falalalalaa · 23/12/2023 21:34

@Catsknowbest thank you!

It was actually NYE three years ago that I quit, not last year! I never thought I could do it, so if I can anyone can.

Good luck to all quitting, if you fall off the wagon just get straight back on!

IAmAQuitter · 24/12/2023 14:13

Hi, I'd like to join if I may.

I've been smoking for over 40 years and I really must give up as it's now affecting my arteries and giving me heart palpitations too Xmas Sad

I have 2 or 3 roll ups before work in the morning, then I vape all day at work, but when I get home I stupidly spend the whole evening smoking heavily.

I don't know why I do it, I mean you'd think I could at least just stick to the vapes, but all I can think about just before I leave work is getting home and having a fag and a cup of tea.

raindropbox · 23/01/2024 17:24

Just checking in with everyone!
I am now signed up to the NHS healthy lifestyle scheme and have had a call with an absolutely lovely woman who will be helping me :)
We have another call next week to come up with a plan and set a stop date, and I'll be going in to see her in person for carbon monoxide testing 😵‍💫
I really recommend it!

Good luck everyone. I gave up smoking in September so am a few months in. I really recommend the Allen Carr book, I honestly didn't think a book could help but I read it twice and haven't smoked (or vaped) since. Whenever I am tempted or am struggling, I think back to some of the things he wrote and it helps.
