I've just found out from another chat I sent a photo and asked if it's positive. People have told me yes I'm a smoker, is it safe to just stop smoking? Or do I need to cut down? Please help

Can you be a bit clearer?

Jeyla1230 · 23/12/2023 12:02

I've found out today I'm pregnant, I'm worried because I'm a smoker. Do I need to stop straight away or cut down

It's safe to stop straight away - and easier.

Just chuck em out and start eating nice food instead

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/12/2023 12:03

Please try to stop straight away.

(You may find it easier than you think if sickness kicks in)

So you weren’t sure if you were pregnant so posted a picture of your test on here?

Look up some information on smoking in pregnancy on the NHS website. You seem very uninformed!

Of course it’s safe to stop smoking it’s just very bloody difficult.

You can use nicotine replacements from your doctor if you’re struggling to come off cigarettes.

Goid luck with everything x

I must admit I read the opening post and assumed op had posted a photo of herself on here and people had told her she definitely looks like a smoker 😂

You need to stop; in my experience stopping rather than cutting down is easier once you are through the worst bit. Your doctor or midwife will be able to advise if there are any stopping smoking aids it is safe to use in pregnancy. Best of luck.

I’m guessing this is unplanned?
It must be a shock but you can stop smoking now and have a healthy pregnancy so don’t beat yourself up about what you’ve done until now.

Its important to start taking folic acid so get started with that asap.

Jeyla1230 · 23/12/2023 18:01

Thank you everyone, sorry was at work that's why I didn't reply. Had to Google folic acid as nor had it before. Someone told me that it harms the baby if you just stop but I'm glad you guys helped. So thank you once again.

Sorry wasn't much clearer 😂
