Coloured bathroom suites

Just imagine for a moment that were no more white bathroom suites. No white loos, no white baths and basins and no white shower trays. No white bidets either! Your replacement bathroom or shower room will be coloured. What colour would you really like, what colour would you grudgingly put up with and what you avoid ?

I'd like pampas. It's pale and inoffensive.

I'd put up with pink as long as it's not shocking pink!

I'd avoid dark brown completely. Too many hidden marks and stains and just utterly dull and grim!

By the way, if your current bathroom is coloured and you like it - great. But white seems to be the way nowadays.

Back in the early 90s I had a "whisper grey" bathroom suite.
Pale grey, it was gorgeous, I really loved it 😍

Brexile · 22/12/2023 18:36

Pale turquoise, so calming!

GKD · 22/12/2023 18:37

Turquoise. Or navy blue (like scale permitting).

I’d love to put a coloured bath set in…

My DGPs had "pale primrose". The bungalow was build in the 60s and was very modern at the time.

IWishThatICouldBeWorryFree · 22/12/2023 18:38

I’ve lived with so many!

We used to live with a bright pink bathroom suit in an old home when I was a teen.
Our first rented flat together had an avocado suite.
This house we live in now had a burgundy suite and our previous one had a battle ship grey bath, although the toilet and sink were white for some reason.

I’m just looking at a property on RM that has a blue suite. DH says he cannot bear to re do another bathroom. Shame, as the house is lovely.

Hmmm maybe pale peach? That’s quite inoffensive and a bit warm looking.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 22/12/2023 18:41

My grandparents had coloured bathrooms when I was growing up. One nanna had an avocado one and then changed it for a pale pink one. My other nanna had a primrose yellow (and god help you if you just called it yellow, she would correct you straight away that it was primrose yellow, not yellow). My cousins had a dark brown one and a maroon one (they were posh as they had 2 bathrooms! Unheard of really then).

When we moved here a few years ago it still had the original 90s bathroom with a "champagne" coloured bath suite. It was vile.

I would have a pale pink if I had to have one.

SummaLuvin · 22/12/2023 18:42

Wonder if it's same place I've been looking at - a vibrant sky/aqua blue? At first I was like "hmm, that's bold" but it's grown on me very fast, rather charming!

AuntyMabelandPippin · 22/12/2023 18:43

I have lived with avocado, sky blue, beige, grey/blue and maroon suites, before I have been able to afford a new bathroom.

I will never, ever have anything but a white one again.

Dottiespotty · 22/12/2023 18:43

I love coloured bathroom suites. Surely due a revival along with patterned carpets. Not brown though.

I would choose pink or yellow.

After watching Shining Vale, I decided I want a pink retro bathroom. I do like the blue in Shining Vale though.

Preworkouttingle · 22/12/2023 18:49

I like coloured bathroom suites! They can look amazing with the right accessories and lighting. Friends of mine had a black one, with white walls and a huge, lush green plant in there, and an art deco mirror and accessories. It was really striking and classy.

SutWytTi · 22/12/2023 18:51

I like them too.
I think of the basics I've seen, I like avocado best.

TheTecknician · 22/12/2023 18:51

I once considered renting a flat whose bath was a sort of not quite royal blue but not quite navy. Gold taps. It was vile and I passed. It looked so naff and tacky.

A house we bought in the 80s had an avocado suite in the main bathroom and a deep pink one in the en-suite.
The downstairs toilet was lap pink.
I could not wait to change them
Gold taps as well

Allywill · 22/12/2023 18:57

we had a champagne one in our first house. sort of a cream colour. i like it - a lot warmer colour than white. had gold taps too !

festivetinseling · 22/12/2023 19:05

We live in a hard water area, so I would have to avoid all the darker colours I think.

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 22/12/2023 19:05

I would love a pale yellow one!

In past houses, I have had a 'champagne' one, a beige one and a classic avocado.

FestiveFruitloop · 22/12/2023 19:07

I miss coloured bathroom suites! Well, not avocado, I was never able to warm to that (unfortunate, as ex and I had an avocado bathroom suite) but my ILs used to have a blue bathroom suite which I loved. I was gutted when they ripped it out, MIL is a fan of stark white but the blue was lovely imho.

VioletCharlotte · 22/12/2023 19:15

My parents used to have a peachy coloured bathroom suite, I loved it. It was so much warmer. And the bathroom floor was carpeted!

You've just reminded me of my ex who I mentioned in my pp, everlastingly wiping drip marks (if that's the right expression) off our avocado sink. But then he was obsessively houseproud. 🙄

BogRollBOGOF · 22/12/2023 19:19

Out of the coloured suites I've lived with, pampas, champagne, primrose yellow and pink were best.

I'll pass on avocado, and various shades of beige for ever more.
DM still has the avocado. It's 40+ from the same year as me.

TheTecknician · 22/12/2023 19:21

I guess avocado is generally acknowledged to be the worst colour for a bathroom, although I think brown and any shade of blue are terrible. Years ago, the bathroom in our family home was pale blue - it looked cold and miserable. Eventually, sage green swept in and changed the ablution dynamic.

I think coloured bathrooms are still available but I expect they have to be made to order and are likely to cost more.

@SummaLuvin I’m not sure this would ever grow on me!

This is another delight I’ve come across whilst house hunting. The bath is a fabulous shape!

We're buying a house with a turquoise bathroom suite and a downstairs pink loo.

I'm told these colours are becoming trendy but I don't know how I feel about it. A coloured suite is a definite commitment.
