The lovely feeling of breaking up for Christmas and thoughts for those that don't!

We had a half day at work today and now off bar one morning until Jan 2nd! This is the first time in my working life I've ever had this as I was a mental health services manager for 20 years and a support worker before that and if anything Christmas was our busiest time.ive worked at least every other Christmas Day and spent many of them with clients who are really struggling, whilst missing my family, and rushing round like an idiot trying to fit everything in around work.I now work in a sort of related, mainly advisory role and our office is shut over Christmas. This is lovely! But I almost don't know what to do with myself!
Sending lots of love to those not fortunate enough to break up for Christmas and thanks- as it's usually service industries or Health/care - the jobs that make life either nicer or better for others. I hope you all get at least bit of time off...

A well-deserved break is yours. Be sure to make the most of it.

I worked as a Nurse for 30+ years and would always end up working nights over Christmas to fit around the kids. It was horrible/ Five years ago I changed careers and now generally get at least a week, sometimes more off and the feeling is incredible. This year I have almost two weeks off although sadly time off had to be extended due to a family funeral early in the new year. I also have covid which is dampening things a bit for me as I feel rubbish. I always think of ex colleagues at Christmas who will be working in the hospice I used to work in and dealing with very difficult and heartbreaking situations.

this year i do have new years off as its my 10th wedding anniversary and we got special permission to take leave and are going on a cruise.

i knew what i was signing up for when i took this job and i can't imagine doing anything different.

OP, at first I thought you were writing about breaking up with a romantic partner around Christmas time, and I felt sad for you...

But that was not the case! So now I'm happy for you!
Enjoy your break. Enjoy Christmas. Enjoy your rest.

Merry Christmas!
