Men in literature

I've been watching another page where they've held a World Cup of attractive literary men. They are down to the final- having (to give some guidance) eliminated Gilbert Blythe and Charles Bingley. A virtual prize to whoever guess the last two. My DP got it right without hesitation. So......?

I’d have Mr Darcy and John Thornton from North & South but only the Richard Armitage version

Absolutely these two.

Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities?

LadyHester · 22/12/2023 14:29

Mr Knightley every time

Rochester was eliminated early, to my great relief.
@WhenWereYouUnderMe Because it's Christmas and because you like Maggie OFarrell, I'll let "stuffy old classics" pass.....

Why thank you 😁

There's not a 'classic' book that I've ever loved. To me classics should be things like Trainspotting; that's 30 years old now and still an absolute powerhouse bit of writing.

It's not the film/TV versions, but the actual book character.

Casanova?

Hmm-probably time for a clue. He doesn't come from literary fiction. Not a "stuffy old classic" to quote a pp.

I've got a quiet, but probably totally pointless, hope that Zaphod Beeblebrox is in the last two.

Haha he'd have my vote too.

LadyHester · 22/12/2023 14:40

Mark Darcy

ronswansonstache · 22/12/2023 14:41

Probably the higher end of middlebrow.

I'd have chosen Ford over Zaphod, btw.

Ooo I need to know now (sad about Rochester - can’t help but have a soft spot for him as I love Jane so much!)

Username947531 · 22/12/2023 14:53

Jay Gatsby?

Nah, President of the Galaxy over a book researcher any time! I like a man with status!
