17yo DS said he really liked it. He knew a lot of it from Horrible Histories 🤔.

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/12/2023 14:07

I really enjoyed it. It was very well done.

dreamingbohemian · 22/12/2023 14:14

Oh I really didn't like it. The battle scenes are well done but Joaquin Phoenix is so miscast, he plays him as a grumpy weird old man for the whole film.

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 22/12/2023 15:24

@dreamingbohemian what ashame!! That would also put me off

A bit laboured, but the battle scenes were very well done

BoredofBlonde · 22/12/2023 15:27

Wonka was good!

Flavabobble · 22/12/2023 15:27

The battle scenes are well done but it's overlong. I nearly fell asleep a couple of times.

FamBae · 22/12/2023 15:31

I enjoyed It, I liked the love story between him and Josephine, it's very tongue in cheek and humourous on occasion, I fell asleep during the last battle scene, woke up and they were still at it.

HamBone · 22/12/2023 15:33

I’ve heard mixed reactions, especially about his relationship with Josephine ( historically inaccurate), but my teens would enjoy the battle scenes.

@FamBae 🤣🤣🤣

@BoredofBlonde

Ohhh, I was wondering about Wonka.

dreamingbohemian · 22/12/2023 15:36

Yes he sort of grunts and mopes his way through the film and it's like, there is no way THIS guy conquered Europe

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 22/12/2023 15:45

How stupid.

I absolutely loved it, my 25 year history loving DS also enjoyed it. It was more of a love film than I expected. I know a lot about French history up until Marie Antionette but not much about this period so I found it really interesting.

changename01 · 22/12/2023 16:25

It's very well done. Worth seeing at the cinema

OvO · 22/12/2023 16:43

My 16 year old was so looking forward to it but didn’t enjoy it much. He's a big history buff and was hoping for a rise to power type film. It wasn’t that.

It really heavily focussed on his relationship with some battles in between. There was little context to the battles either. They seemed to paint him as this socially awkward man. Well, that was our takeaway anyway.

Laiste · 22/12/2023 17:02

I read title as Neapolitan. I was going to say yes it's delish.

I'll get my coat ...
